VMI game thread
Sherwood just got hurt and it looks bad! Hawks down 5. VMI shooting the absolute lights out of it. It looks bad for the Hawks.

Hawks down 2 under 4 minute time out 1st half. They are very quick and hard to deal with at VMI. I hope that they don't keep up all of these 3 balls.

Hawks up 1 at the break. Chuck Ogbodo made a big difference at the end because he can block/alter shots. They've hung in there even without Sherwood.

Hawks up 12 under 4 minutes. And this game is not over! I don't have a good feeling for some reason because every time we slow it down, we don't score. Hawks up 98-86.

Hawks win 110 to 93 or something like that. Hawks looked well coached out there against that kind of pressure. UNCW had 84 points in the paint.

60 % shooting as a team. Three players with 20+, 2 with double doubles (Jackson and Cedrick). Pugh with 16 pts, 6 assists. Won the rebounding battle 43-30.

Only negative I see numbers-wise are the turnovers (17). Otherwise another solid road win.

We were 4 point dogs. I was worried about our lack of depth before the game and when Dylan went down I was really in doubt about things. That's two in a row in which we were dogs and won. Good job and keep it going!

Saw the game in person. VMI cannot play any half court defense. Once you guys broke their press, it was a layup drill.

Good luck the rest of the way. We need for you guys to be a "good win".

RE: VMI game thread
So, the best of this game was our guard penetration. We did not allow ourselves to get into a 3 point contest, and were able to take it to the hoop at will. When Ponder gets a chance to go left on the drive, he's money. Freddie looks amazing under Keatts, and it's apparent why VCU was after him. What a great way for him to finish out at UNCW. Too bad Rendleman couldn't have been here for this.

May be too early to tell, But Talley and Pugh sure look like they are going to be strong for 4 years. Pugh has incredible quickness, and despite his size can get to the bucket. Talley seems more like a floor leader and a defensive stopper. Impressed with both.

Nice to see Ced with a confidence building game.

We've got the jitters out of the way, and 3 games under this new system. It's obvious we are better at a faster pace, and the guys are getting comfortable with what Keatts wants on the floor. ODU beat us pretty badly, but my bet is that game played later in the year would have been a different outcome.

Now for Davidson.

They beat Campbell by 35, and lost to the Tarheels by 18, staying close in the first half.

RE: VMI game thread
I didn't have a chance to watch or listen to the game.

Looking at the box score, the thing that sticks out to me (overlooking the obvious performances by Jackson, Cedric, Spruill, and Ponder) was that fact that Kevin Hickson started and played 16 minutes. I understand Gettys not getting minutes in a track meet game. Ogbodo only playing 3 minutes, though, sure sticks out like a sore thumb.

I admire Keatts for letting a walk-on play over a scholarship player if he earns the minutes in practice. I recall how resistant Buzz Peterson was to giving Reybold the minutes at first, when he was obviously a better choice than guys on scholarship. But Ogbodo has been a non-factor at best in the first 3 games.

Anyone have any inside skinny?

RE: VMI game thread
Not sure I've got the skinny 70's, but did watch this game too. Hickson actually played pretty well and is pretty athletic. He plays pretty good help defense,he's aware of what's going on out there and can run rim to rim. Nothing is more frustrating to watch than a guy get beat on the drive and for there not to be somebody stepping over to stop that drive. He did that last night and is scrappy plus he looks to have pretty decent hands. Chuck made a difference in the few minutes that he played by blocking and altering shots-you could tell that after he blocked one-the next time they were very aware. That can make a real difference for a fast-paced team like UNCW because you can run the opposing team off the line (if they are a 3-ball team),force their hand and possibly get easier transition the other way. CJ is going to have his good moments too because of his size and coordination.

By the way, this is the first time UNCW has won consecutive road games since December of 2011
