Question
There are a lot of things floating around regarding the UAB football team and its cost and the idea that the powers that be will not put any money into it and want to shut it down. One question has always bothered me: How can UAB seek to raise $1 BILLION and justify $0 of the $1 BILLION being invested in the football program?

RE: Question
I had figured that Watts was going to get that donation level and then have some extra old budget dollars to run football on. That he just knew he had to keep shut and was raising money and once it was in hand he'd feel a little more comfortable about it.
That's actually a real good shut 'em up. "We were halfway through a billion dollar fund drive, but weren't allowed to use any of it to fund football."

RE: Question
Saw Mackin shaking a lot of hands down by the Frozen 100 section tonight. Anyone know if he got any tough questions?

Looking back at the announcement of the fundraiser it was conspicuously silent about athletics. Didn't really think about that at the time, and it might mean nothing, but . . .

Do you think there is any doubt?
I'd noticed the lack of mention of athletics. I thought that it was deliberate in order not to interest or antagonize.

RE: Question
Check my math, but 75 million is 7.5% of 1 billion.

I regularly asked the people of Blazer Boosters and even asked Brian Mackin a while back about that, and their answers were less than forthcoming, too. But still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and increased my BB donation...Fool me once, shame on you...

He seemed pretty relaxed and was doing his normal back-slapping and hand shaking. Guess I expected him to be a little more stand offish considering the bashing he's taken from the media and fans.

RE: Question
Saw him behind the fan's seats on the court late in the game.
Hard to know what to think about his involvement or lack of involvement in this process.

Mackin wasn't doing any of that the two previous games. Has something changed?

RE: Question
On Monday night, he was down by Steve Mitchell. He split time between there and his usual post last night.
