Richmond looked bigger to me, and I agree, the better team.[/quote]

On the plus side - I can turn my attention to much warmer indoor activities.

We were down to freshmen on the corners. They were overmatched. We missed Houston-Carson and Trey Reed for most of this game. DHC is every bit as good as Cox & Webb.

Agree with all...the three turnovers cost us any chance winning the game.

Strauss was frequently throwing to his first or second look. On most of his passes, we would have needed an unblocked defender in order to get to him. Also, we had at least 4 tipped passes from linemen. We were trying to disrupt his passing lanes because of his quick throws.

Agree, DHC is a great player, it will great to have him back. His size is a plus.

I thought the OL did fine job last night.

I felt like suck-starting a revolver last night. Dammit.

Anyway, several bright spots this year but failure just the same.

Our OL should be deep, we finally had a QB start and finish the entire season, and some young LBs and DBs got some valuable playing time.

Harvey looked promising, was dressed, but hasn't played. Reeves caught a few passes this season for few yards. Back-up TEs were no replacement for Bo's blocking. We need some guys to step up at WR, TE, DE, LB, and FS.

Ugh, Go Tribe

Ok, I'm going to be be much more negative than I usually am.

We need either a new defensive scheme or a new defensive coach.

We didn't lose this game, imo, because the players didn't do their job. We lost this game because of a terrible, horrible defensive gameplan.

EVERYONE knows that what UR does is throw kick, short passes to their big strong WRs. Yet throughout the entire game our ENTIRE secondary was lined up 7 yards off the ball. This HAS to be scheme. We're not going to be able to get pass rush when it's three steps and throw. So we HAVE to do something to disrupt the passing game. You cannot disrupt the passing game by sitting back on your heals and waiting for those quick routes to come to you.

I can handle when 18-22 year olds try hard and just can't quite get it done.

I have serious issue when we come in with a scheme made by adults paid a lot of money to put the team in a position to succeed. I think this has been a problem throughout the season but was dramatically highlighted in this game. The last TD drive by UR it was SO dramatic. I sit along the 20ish on that side of the field. They just marched down the field to the point that when they had the ball on the 4 or 5, we were standing in the end zone. How exactly are we going to stop that offense from scoring like that?

I feel your pain l33t. That's been our world the last few years & you have every right to call it out.

Prior to yesterday we led the CAA in turnover margin at +14. Turnovers were not the reason our season did not live up to expectations.

Game 12 -- Richmond
Turnovers changed the Villanova and Richmond games. Change either of those two and the whole season changes.

Game 12 -- Richmond
I with L33T and probably didn't articulate my point clearly enough after watching the game. Even with DHC, I feel like we have played 7 yards off the ball all year. Teams with a short passing game have killed us. I'm optimistic about the offensive side of the ball next year (minus the loss of Tre and Ballard), but defense should have been a strong suit this year and wasn't. I've generally been pleased with the play calling when cluley has had time. Hopefully that will compensate for our losses next year.

RE: Game 12 -- Richmond
I hate our secondary scheme. It's like watching a slow death unfold in front of you, six yards at a time. BUT I'm not sure we have the talent and speed to play tighter coverage. By keeping the other teams receivers in front of them it forces more plays and therefore more chances for an incompletion or a turnover. If you screw up playing tight coverage it may just take one play to score

Also worth noting that we remain winless in games on national TV.

I was thinking about that as I drove down last night, and hoped we could break that pattern. For fans who may not know us, or the CAA in general, the games have not showcased the program very well.

I do not recall fumbles or interceptions in the JMU game. They lost a fumble, and we got a TD off a blocked punt.

Yeah, no turnovers against JMU.

The things that were usually our strengths (Turnovers, DLine) were the weaknesses in this game.

RE: Game 12 -- Richmond
A couple things I noted last night.

First of all, Richmond is bigger. I remember seeing this last year - their offensive line, receivers, and linebackers all seemed much bigger than our guys - both in terms of sheer size, and in muscle mass. Their O-Line looks like it could be playing at Virginia (if not as quick). Their receivers in particular were big; none were as capable as Tre McBride, but all were much bigger than our corners and safeties.

Second, their scheme was very effective against our defense, and they were able to attack us in a number of different ways. Short routes; deep routes; runs up the middle, runs around the end, zone read, draws.

Third, we got zero pressure up the middle. Strauss to his credit has a great quick release and makes very good decisions.

Fourth, our secondary looked lost. The announcers pointed out several times where they could not understand Airek Green's decision making in pass coverage. Part of the problem obviously was that by the end of the game we were playing a RF and a true freshman at corner. On the plus side, last night was the first time all season that Jared Velasquez looked full speed and appeared to be the player we saw last year.

On offense, we looked limited. We hit some nice intermediate corner routes to Tre McBride a couple of times, but for the most part our offense was either deep passes or runs. Cluley is not a threat in the zone read; he's been battered all season.

Richmond looks like they may be here to stay. They now have won three in a row on us. They've knocked us out of the playoffs twice.

RE: Game 12 -- Richmond
Richmond, JMU, and Villanova have all had a lot of success against us in the years since 2009. I think Richmond loses a lot after this year, but Villanova & JMU both bring back their stud QB's.
