If Chattanooga or Eastern Kentucky is the next pick, I could see UMass being brought on as a 12th member for football only. The FCS candidate will need games against non-transitional FBS programs. UMass and Idaho are useful to that end.
If UAB survives, I'd expect an announcement as soon as the FCS season is done.
Not anymore. After this year App and Georgia Southern are considered full FBS and are no longer transitional. A newbie would have a conference of full FBS members to face to reach their transitional goals.
League wise, we'd love it if Chattanooga would be interested, but I doubt they are, so we're probably starting with hoping Missouri State is interested, and if there not, Eastern Kentucky becomes the choice.
Or, we could dump Idaho, make NMSU a full member and play 10/12

How interested is Army? With Navy joining the AAC next year they would be the only service academy that is Independent. They might view the Sun Belt as the type of conference they can be competitive in. I never see West Point mentioned. Add them for football only and make NMSU full time.

If we were interested in a conference, it would be the AAC (to be with Navy) or the MAC (closer geographical base). I will be blunt because I don't believe in dancing around an issue. Frankly, I would rather drop down to the Patriot League than join the Sun Belt.

If the Sun Belt does lose a member due to the UAB situation, it could open the door to adding both Army and UMass for football.
West - Idaho, NMSU, TXST, stAte, UL, ULM
East - Army, UMass, App St, Ga St, Ga So, Troy
(assuming USA is gone)
Having only eight all-sports members for an FBS conference is legal, but not preferable. Add UAB as a non-football member, which gives the SBC its fourth full member who plays men's soccer (Hartwick, Howard, and NJIT continue as soccer-only members).

I'm anti-football only adds but if Army were to become interested I'm all about it.

Another program with no alumni or media support who can't fill a stadium?

Well no offense, but isnt that pretty much what's left? Unless we throw geography to the wind and pick up North Dakota St, take a chance on Liberty, or lure another G5 away that describes about all the schools we have to choose from.

I'm all for Chattanooga. That's another short road trip and a stadium Eagle fans have a history of invading. Problem is I don't think they have the desire to move up.

No one is a viable option.

Unless it is just absolutely necessary, there is no reason to rush and add a team that is not ready to move up. Try to get to 10 teams first rather than adding to 12, and then pray we don't get raided again.
