New Troy HC possibility
AD John Hartwell is off doing interviews this week..

Frank Wilson... This is a name you might want to keep a close eye on. Hearing he's a leading Candidate. He's currently the LSU RB/RC coach.... LSU pays the man 650k a year so this tells me Troy is most likely going to be paying in the top third of the conference.

Not a fan of hiring position coaches. If LSU doesn't at least try to play some tug-of-war to keep him he may not be worth hiring.

If he's recruiting coordinator for LSU it can't be a bad idea. A good recruiter is what Troy needs the most. They stand to gain a lot from the possible disappearance of the UAB football program.

Recruiting to LSU is not a good resume builder. Already forgot his name but see the results of Memphis's last coach.

That was my first thought. Larry Porter.

Larry Porter.

Also, there was Bradley Dale Peveto who Northwestern State hired from LSU (was co-DC for LSU). He had a 14-30 record at NWSU and had an 0-11 season as well.

I'm not saying it won't work out, but just hiring a guy because he has a big-name team on his resume just seems really risky to me.

You get what you pay for. Hud has been a good hire as a former OC.

Does he have any HC experience at all, at any level? Not sure an FBS school is the best place to get that if not.

I am not sure, but Helen Keller could recruit to LSU so I would stay away from any assistant from a school who has a $100+ million athletic budget. They have no idea what it means to be hamstrung by location and budget.

I agree. Stay away from recruiting coordinators in the SEC. My dog could recruit to LSU.

Shh!!! He will be a great hire for Troy, remember when UL hired an LSU assistant who was a good recruiter, Baldwin.

Let someone else experience the power of LSU coaches who can recruit.

It is just as easy to get a kid to go to Troy as it is LSU, same situation, just this coach has magical recruiting powers!

I say hire him now!

I trust John Hartwell 100% in whoever he hires.

Troy isn't going to spend 600-800k on just any coach. Especially if we have 80+ applicants like he said we have.

But seriously, don't hire the LSU guy.

We as a conference need a strong Troy football program to make the conference more competitive and better as a whole!

This is the best advice Troy could take. There is a HUGE difference between operating a football program with "LSU dollars" versus "Troy dollars".

Troy can find a much better leader for their program, and one that won't break the bank while being disillusioned every morning when they walk into their office.

The answer is no. Frank Wilson is a good recruiter, but if you do hire him it would be more important to save some money for a good staff. If he can hire a good DC and OC, you might get by with him.
