Here's what we know ... UAB is currently in fact-finding mode -- contacting people who may know something about the allegations to figure out if Rabb has done anything wrong.

One email, sent by a UAB official to someone involved in the story, includes a line which reads, "These allegations may affect Chris’ eligibility so it is very important that we speak as soon as possible."

The allegation in question ... Jameis tanked the 1st half of the FSU vs. Louisville game to help Rabb win a $5,000 bet.

Of course, point-shaving is illegal ... but it seems UAB is also interested to see if Rabb was gambling on college sports at all -- a huge no-no for active college athletes.

TMZ broke the Jameis Winston rape story last year, posted the Donald Sterling racist audio tape, and posted the Ray Rice video of him knocking out and dragging his fiancé out of the elevator. Still think they aren't a credible source to take seriously?

If it was just UAB and no other team, I would agree with you, but TMZ has broken a major Winston story already, so they obviously have some sort of leak they know near to him or Florida State.

A post on a gambling-related website suggested the link between the two players prompted Rabb to place a $5,500 bet on the first-half spread of the FSU-Louisville game. FSU was favored, but trailed by two touchdowns at the half. Winston threw two interceptions in the first half and three total, but he went on to pass for 401 yards and three touchdowns, rallying the Seminoles to a 41-32 victory in the second half.

The gambling website listed no direct link to Winston, but it included an extensive list of bets allegedly placed by Rabb.
