RE: Game Day: CMU
Just a comment Reggie Bell may be the QB of the future but if they keep on using them the way they are he may not have a future, this type of offense is QB injury prone. Recall Andy Schmitt started out as a dual threat and ran the ball effectively but later in his career he became a pocket passer. If you're looking for a pocket passer then Roback would be probably have the edge over Bell. My question to the offensive coordinator would be why didn't you design an offensive scheme around the personnel you had and change it over time? CC said of the hiring lots of points but the offense has misfired consistently this year EVEN with an experienced offensive line. What happens next year when all your backups are redshirt freshmen at the offensive line? Better be getting a few JUCO O linemen to improve depth and provide competition.

Hallelujah. This is painful to watch right now.

Good news, guys 04-cheers

The next EMU (revenue sport) games will be women and men's basketball, November 14, the day before EMU @ WMU FB.

And what makes you think mens basketball will be any better? My information from a number of students is that they weren't all that impressed with the scrimmage.07-coffee3

Yep, because a team can be fully judged based on a scrimmage that was all for show. Come on, man.

Exactly Sam which is why is people should not read too much into either positive or negative. Basically I would throw out the non MAC schedule except for the Div I games with the exception of of U of M and MSU. That should be a true measuring point of where we are.

CC said he was trying to understand the CMU EMU rivalry well let me draw it up for you. You said you want to recruit Michigan highs schools first so you'll understand getting stomped by CMU at home will do NOTHING for you in achieving that goal. You're a smart guy so I think you'll get what I'm trying to say.

and only marshmellows and chestnuts have been more toasted than the EMU secondary this season. Most of CMU players are home grown here in Michigan and the difference in team speed between CMU and EMU is a large GAP.

Of course, I can make a counter point, of sorts, about CMU vs. WMU (or WMU vs. EMU). And if WMU and CMU were to play Saturday, WMU would be say a 10 point favorite (off the top of my head assuming Rawls would play).

WMU which TODAY might be in the top 3 of the MAC is LOAD with out of state impact players.

http://www.wmubroncos.com/SportSelect.db...EM_ID=4600

If I get to 'draft' 6 Broncos for my 'fantasy team' they would be:

1). Franklin (IL),

2). Corey Davis (IL),

3). Terrell (IN),

4). Braverman (FL),

5). Celiscar (DB - FL).

6). Ash (DL - FL - UofM grad transfer).

So what have EMU79 and I proved: Nothing.

There is NO universal 'road map' for recruiting success. Kind of like 'Recruiting without Borders.' WMU seemingly likes to hit IL and other points West/Southwest of K'zoo and Florida (the previous HC loved that Florida speed).

For more context: P.J. did recruit MI very well this past February BUT those MI-bred recruits are not big contributors (or virtually at all) to THIS YEAR'S TEAM. They will contribute big in the future, BUT saying that the WMU turnaround this year has anything to do with 2014 MI recruits is very inaccurate. Most of them are redshirting.

RE: Game Day: CMU
Gentlemen,
Let us try to put the blame for this season on the players themselves. When you have fumblitus Jackson, board hands Russell, an offensive line that continually takes us from first and ten to first and fifteen, yes and bad passes from our quarterback, and that's just from the offensive side of the ball.
I am not a coach, so I don't know how to correct some of the things I mentioned, but I am sure that the coaching staff is taking flak for just plain poor execution by our players. I've said it before on other posts, one way to possibly correct these miscues is to bench the offending players for a few series or a game. What do you have to lose? The game, when you are losing by a few touchdowns? So what, give some one else a chance. I just don't get continually playing some one who keeps under performing, when they are a junior or senior.

RE: Game Day: CMU
Ken, this poor execution has been going on for DECADES, regardless of who the football coach has been. We bring in new coaches every five years to FIX these lack of executions and NOTHING changes. I didn't expect CC to instantly turnover the program but I expect them to play competitively for the ENTIRE game (no not three quarters, not one half). Outside of slogans and mottos and a grey field and increased prices I haven't seen consistent progress this year. The only thing I have to say is its the first year of the CURRENT rebuilding program you know the eternal rebuilding program that never takes this program off its dead last reputation. And yes don't expect folks to pony up $$$ to improve the facilities for results like these.

By the way asking that CC or his staff be fired isn't going to happen this early in the process. As painful as it seems we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Dear emu79,
Maybe I'm wrong, but I do not remember this many passes being dropped by our receivers in past years, in fact wasn't Russell on the Mackie watch list at the beginning of the season? You aren't placed there because one has board hands. Me thinks you are generalizing a bit too much.

Agree.

My suggestion: Hope for some highlights in 2014 (maybe Bell comes back for the rest of the season and has some games which are fun to watch), 2015, and hope by 2016 that we have something to really enjoy.

The key is to have realistic hopes. This isn't going to be easy. We will lose a lot of talent after our last 2014 game (yes, that sounds crazy but he do have a significant amount of senior talent).

Don Scott surpassed the current group of receivers in terms of catchness interuptus. They should have nicknamed him Colonel Klink. Gibson is getting close though. Russell may have been on a list but being on a list doesn't excuse you from making the plays.

Creighton: 'That was not us out there today.'

Unfortunately the play was all too familiar to those who have followed EMU football throughout the years.

I think I've seen more dropped passes this year than any I can remember. It isn't one guy, but the whole group.

RE: Game Day: CMU
From what I could stomach in person for 3+ quarters I saw that CMU was bigger, stronger, faster, and deeper. It is just that simple. We have some great individual talent in some positions, but we still are two good recruiting (and development) classes away.

Our receivers couldn't catch a cold. I know we've had personnel issues (to say the least!), but when is the last time a decent set of receivers played for EMU? There's a reason Allen didn't play much a receiver before this year. He must have the hands the size of an 8-year old.

With Bell out the offense collapses - Bolden stinks. I see no reason for him to play again - he goes down like a wet bag the first time he's touched, and he is too inconsistent with his passes.

Not expecting much for rest of the year. Hoping for coaching and playing improvements for the last three.

I'm also thoroughly disappointed with the receivers this year. Granted, we weren't really able to have the QB get the ball to them until week 5 or so, but I was expecting better years out of many of them. Creel hasn't been healthy most of the season, so I can at least give him a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. Kenny Jones has shown flashes of potential. Hopefully next year he'll have developed considerably over the off-season. Really could've used Jesse Tate this season...

Creel being banged up has really hurt us. It also hurt production when Jay Jones and Quincy Jones were kicked off the team. Not disagreeing with that decision, but it has made an impact. JJones was a starter and QJones was our 3rd or 4th receiver. Both would've been ahead of Strange and Gibson on the depth chart.

I just want to see us when CC has his own recruited players in the games so I can really get a feel of how good he actually is or isn't.

I wonder if the revolving door at QB -- somewhat necessary due to injury, certainly -- has had an impact here. I was very surprised at the drops also...and I hope your guys catch every pass when you play WMU. 03-thumbsup

To think I drove all the way up from Louisville to see that performance. It's also the first EMU game that I can remember in a while that we left early(actually it might have been the first one I have left early). Needless to say that game really killed a lot of my optimism. The thing that was most disappointing about the CMU game was just the lack of desire and lack of fire right from the get go.

Let's bring on basketball season.
