Fun times. Limbs down all over the back yard. Definitely got off easy compared to a lot of people.
I see people on Facebook complaining about their area not having tornado sirens, we are just getting some in Dunwoody…come on people its 2014, get an app, get a weather radio, get with the times….sirens seem outdated
I would agree to a point, but this morning it was the sirens going off that woke me up, not the weather update on my phone. Also sirens can be overridden by local authorities. If a trained tornado spotter(typically sheriff or police) has spotted a tornado or funnel cloud, the sirens can be instantly sounded before the weather service relays the weather warning.
Correct, they also don't have to sound them if a Tornado is going to miss the area. We see it a lot in Arkansas, the county you are in is under a tornado warning, but your sirens are not going off because the Tornado is going to miss you by 10 miles.
If there was a tornado within 10 miles of me I would take the wife and dogs to the basement
True, but in like Fulton's case. A tornado moving through Alpharetta has no chance of hitting College Park, because it is a ridiculously tall county.

I only take cover if the Tornado is going to pass within a half mile of my location, and that's only if there are no good pictures available.

It showed up and disappeared and then reappeared. It also disproved a long believed rumor that tornadoes can't cross a river. It crossed from Monroe to West Monroe. It was so sad to drive around today and see the destruction. Again, it was a miracle no one was killed. Nice to see neighbor helping neighbor too. Even a local garden district restaurant that is pretty pricey and the head chef is Corey Barr from chopped has opened and cooked free meals by candle light for residents. Very heart warming. Thanks again for your prayers for our area.

I still don't understand why people believe that myth. Experts try to dispel 99 percent of the myths about these things, but people still believe them.
Of course, you try explaining to an American that something is unpredictable.

The one thing I miss about Atlanta is the spring Auto Show at the GWCC. I know it is quite a bit off topic but it is 10/16, not 10/14. Sorry to hear about Monroe but thankful nobody was killed. You're in my prayers.
