From everything I've seen, it looks like GaSouthern's time is now.

They are going to be a scary, scary team in this league football wise. I think they are the antithesis to ULL. Strong Football and Baseball. Basketball is capable when they want it to be.

It may be time to revisit divisions and a championship game quickly if they end up winning the league. The west schools that didn't see the need may demand it. The east schools that wanted it may change their mind. 03-lmfao

We definitely need a championship game . More exposure along with more money will help the entire league..Even more, instead of league wide parity, we need a strong upper tier and a solid middle..We need "BoiseSt" that wins the out of conference early season games then runs the conference..A team that can at least make it into the conversation..

We don't need to add just anyone to get to a championship game. We tried that already. If we can get a good add, fine. If we can have a championship game without adding, fine. But no further adds solely for the purpose of getting that game.

That team is every G-5 conference's only hope for a spot in the access bowl each year. It's a tough thing to do. You first have to have a very good team in your conference. Then you need that team to have been lucky with their scheduling. Four years ago, scheduling Ole Miss would have looked like a pretty winnable game, and they just knocked off the #1 team in the nation, so one never knows. All the stars have to line up just right to make the kind of run that catapults a team into the national picture.

And the newcomers over the last year or so have done nothing but add to the excitement. Most other conf's cream-of-the-crop dominate their respective leagues. But in the SBC, unless you're just so ridiculously a cut above everyone else, you're highly subject to lose a conf game at any moment.

I think it makes the conf more interesting. It's awesome!

My $0.02 worth....

The newbies have added to the excitement in the Belt and also have brought this board to a much higher level.

You know what all Georgia Southern fans like almost as much as winning? Respect....and we're finally starting to get a share of it.

Hope it doesn't make us soft and complacent, as one of the main things I love about our culture is our inability to be satisfied.

The Sun Belt is the absolute best conference we could be in right now. Group of like-minded schools, similar goals, and we can compete immediately. I love this conference, and hope to make our mark by season's end...and by that I mean win the whole damn thing!

Hail Southern. Hail SBC.

Actually, you brought up a good point, Sleepy. This is the perfect conference for 'go-getter' teams. Teams that want to work hard to make a name for themselves have a wide open conference that includes no stagnant members and all are hungry for success. We here in the SunBelt can do anything if we work hard to make this a strong conference. The Big 12 expansion thread is an example that we are not a united conference. We need to work on this conference rather than worry or plot to move to another conference perceived to be of higher status. When you are at the bottom, the only direction is up.

Divisions are a great and wonderful thing if the list of the schools the league would like to add equals the list of schools that would like to join.

Right now those don't match up.

As to GaSo winning the league... yeah there are going to be people who are going to poor mouth the league but we lost five teams that between than have three shared conference titles in football from 2005 forward so adding a team that can win looks like an upgrade to me.

That über dominate team you're talk'n about will need to beat the likes of the best teams in the country, which is how Boise St became Boise St! Don't think that the current SBC has that going for us. I don't think we need a Boise type to stir conv, but I do agree that the upper teams needs to be very solid along with a strong well balanced middle.

Nevertheless, we do need a conf championship game. If nothing else, for increased exposure & increased pride! More $$$$ will come to us all, which will further increase pride & exposure. I'm rarely prouder than when I see TROY & SBC on ESPN competing & hearing a couple three strangers discussing the game the day after, talking about the best players on each team. I even take pride when I go to the games & sitting there waiting during tv timeouts. I know that fans are sitting there watch my boys play.

The fact that GS is causing a stir is sooooooo much better than having another team for the Bottom 10.

People will try to tell you the opposite. Don't listen.

The SBC is not going to surpass competitors on market size...if we surpass anyone it will be on performance. Anyone who can come in and perform is a great sign.

We are performing at or above expectations but that is partially due to the SOS. GS strength of schedule is ranked #128. We will have to see in the next few years if we can perform well with a stronger schedule.

I've watched the games. You look like an FBS team even against your P5 opponents. Not all of us have.

GS came really close to beating NC State and Georgia Tech. That's nothing to downplay for an SBC team. Even with a harder SOS, GS would be just fine this year.

It's been a good debut season so far, but as someone mentioned above, our culture at Ga Southern won't be happy with losses or decent seasons. When I look at our team I see a lot of room for improvement with fundamental blocking, tackling, ball handling, and pass coverage. I think any team on the schedule is capable of defeating us.

That said, this season has been more fun and interesting than any season in a long time. As rough as it's been for App, I'm sure they look at the dumpster fire that is the SoCon and are still glad to be here.

That is the winning % of our opponents not strength of schedule. You could play a 4-2 MAC team that is weaker than a 2-4 ACC team. That said, our conference schedule and Sav St has been pretty bad. And with GaSt next it only gets worse.

For a one year season? It's absolutely a bad thing.

For the long haul? It's a great thing.

Not to bring up the Florida game, but the fact we won at the Swamp to close out 2013 gave us credibility nationally so if we did win the conference it doesn't hurt in any way. If anything people would think the SBC has added a solid program and improved.
