RE: Week 6 Bowl Projections
quite a few sports pundits and media outlets feel either the AAC and/or SEC won't have teams to send to the Birmingham Bowl. I assumed SBC has a secondary tie in to that bowl game

We beat Tulsa and get a mention. We win our 2nd in a row and get dropped. These projections suck.

Yeah, it's not like other teams could have done better than expected and leap frogged a previously predicted team.

What is the reason behind not allowing 1st year FBS teams to go to a bowl ?

They're transitional so not considered full FBS.

Trying to discourage those dirty FCS untouchables from choosing to move up at all. Other than that, it makes no sense.

Paying the piper for being allowed to move up.

Its designed to be a detriment that forces teams to actually consider the financials of moving up to the FBS level. That way we don't have a ton of teams who aren't ready just moving up for fun.

Have you checked the standings at all? ULL has 2 wins, we have 3 (each has 1 in SBC play) The OOC wins for TXST are UAPB and Tulsa. ULLs is Southern. Both of us beat teams we should have (in conference) and neither was convincing. So, ULL gets the nod because of what? Pre-season ranking/expectations?

It's too early anyway but these guys aren't watching games, they're just picking names out of a hat.

There should be more rational ways of doing that other than prohibiting student-athletes from earning a reward that they earned on the field. Its even more of an injustice since it would obviously mean that they earned a winning record in their transition...which is very difficult.

I'd suggest that their school President's and Athletic Directors be made to sit in the back row at conference events and not be allowed to visit the bar or be provided free food during transition. It might even turn out to be even more of discouragement for move-ups than a bowl ban.

Perhaps with all things being relatively equal, they're just making their guesses based on history? I noted elsewhere that the Cajuns seem to start off in the crapper every year and then finish fairly strongly so perhaps they're thinking the same after last night's victory.

Then again, they may just be pulling names out of a hat.

I wouldn't worry about it at this point. A lot of ball left to be played.

First... Let me say... DAMMIT, we aren't mentioned. And man, it felt so good to be loved. :(

Why are the Cajuns mentioned and we aren't? That's so freaking blatant, it's not even funny. Assuming neither the Cajuns nor us win the conference, but both are bowl eligible, you KNOW the New Orleans Bowl will invite the Cajuns. Why? They have a history of packing that damn bowl and playing well in it.

We (Texas State) are not gonna be guaranteed a bowl unless we win the conference. Ergo, we need to win conference and not leave it in the hands of the bowl guys.

Yeah, I suspect that if the Cajuns are bowl-eligible they'll likely get another call from the New Orleans Bowl. Hard to argue with three consecutive record crowds and 3 wins as a motivator for TPTB. However, that's not to say that the Bobcats will be left out if they're bowl-eligible too. Sort of depends on who else is in the mix.

That's life in the SBC. You at least have an anticipated "first bowl" attendance boost for the bowl guys to consider and no bowl that may think you have been invited to their bowl too many times.

Yeah, I should have qualified it with a more stringent deal. But y'all got what I was driving at.

And I wanna reiterate... I ain't complaining. It's well deserved for the Cajuns to have that "invite in their back pocket". I just lay it out as it is, and the reality is... For us to be sure to get a bowl game, we just have to win it or at least tie for the conference champ (wish we'd put in some tiebreakers though).

yea we may have that invite in the back pocket but we don't have six victories in our back pocket so anything can happen.
