Nice game for V. Lee
17 carries.....111 yards.....57 yard TD run
14-23 passing (61%).....2 TDs, no INT's
Line allowed 0 sacks for 1st time in 4 games
Team has legitimate shot at wins against Towson, Charlotte, Stony Brook and Elon.
Win those 4 and beat either Richmond or W & M and the Dukes are 8-4 by season's end with a possible playoff bearth.

He really looked like a leader last night and that was great to see. The play calling was very good as well.

Nice game for V. Lee
Lee is on pace for 2800 yds passing and 22 TDs. Also on pace for 1300 yds rushing and another 8 TDs.
If it weren't for Robinson, those would be 1st team All CAA stats.

His very first run stopped short of the L.O.S. only because he did that shuffle with his feet again. He's got to plant a foot, make a cut, and go.

I liked the fewer pass calls. Perhaps it was the weather that had Mehringer calling more runs in a 2:1 ratio. But, I hope it sinks in and they realize throwing 38 passes a game is not maximizing Lee's ability.
Run more please. That is all.

Agee. Somewhere in the 25+/- pass attempts range seems appropriate for this team.

V. L. might have a shot at beating Robertson out if he continues to play like he did yesterday. With one more game played than Robertson, Lee is leading in rushing yards (538-298), rushing TD's (4-1) and total offense per game (324-313). Robertson has the edge in passing (253-234 yds/game) and a wide margin in passing efficiency (196 -119) and INT's thrown (1 vs 5). If Lee can keep his completion % and passing TDs up and INT's down he could be close in the passing categories by the end of the season. That would be a tall order though, but he seems to be improving in the passing game (credit to the O-line)

RE: Nice game for V. Lee
Robertson has a lock on first team all CAA. Vad is playing very well for us. Without him, JMU is likely 1-5 right now. Our offensive line is playing well and will get even better as the season goes on.
UR, Nova and UNH are the three best teams in our league hands down. JMU, W&M, UD, Albany and SB are in a grouping together. Towson, Elon, Maine and URI are just plain bad this season.
Vad has a lot of upside. I don't think we have seen him play his best game yet. He throws a very nice deep ball. DeAndre Smith and Cheatham have become his most reliable receivers. I am amazed at how many receivers JMU has on the roster. I would trade a couple of them for some decent secondary players.

Yes, Vad is doing a good job and appears to be improving with each game. He is testimony to the old adage: " All FBS transfers are created equal ... but some are more equal than others. "
My confusion involves our RB's. How many are there? Where are they? Who plays when? Why?

I'd love to see him get his completion percentage up to cut down on the 3 & outs and short drives, but all in all I think he's done as well as anyone could have reasonably hoped. Coming from the triple option to run this up-tempo style of offense is a major change and he's starting to really settle in and find his identity in the scheme.

I agree that Vad has looked good and has been improving week to week, but wtf are you talking about when you say we would likely be 1-5 without him? Are you saying if we just weren't playing with a QB at all, or are you suggesting if Birdsong were the QB that we would be 1-5? I assume the latter, and, while I have never been one of the posters on the Birdsong bandwagon, I think your statement is ridiculous. Vad has played well but has not been lights out by any stretch of the imagination. I believe we would be sitting at 3-3 most likely with Birdsong playing in this system.
All that said, we should be 4-2 or even 5-1 with either of those QBs, but our defensive coaching this year is so atrocious that we are lucky we are not 1-5

RE: Nice game for V. Lee
Yes, I am saying we would be 1-5 with Birdsong as our QB. Why? Because our defense would still be as bad as it is and I don't believe JMU's offense with Birdsong at QB would be putting up the points it is with Vad at QB. I wasn't busting on Birdsong.
Vad has done a lot of damage with his legs. TD's and first downs that Birdsong would not be able to produce. Vad is also better at avoiding the rush. Our offensive line would have given up more sacks had Birdsong been the QB.
Vad is a better deep ball passer than Birdsong too. I never bashed Birdsong last year and thought he was a decent QB. My point is that Vad is that much better than Birdsong and defensively, JMI is much worse than last year. We really miss Stanton and Robertson on defense.
It is not ridiculous to believe JMU would have lost to Lehigh and Albany with Birdsong as QB hence 1-5. Those two games were decided on the game's last play. I would say JMU's offense is probably 10-14 points better with Lee as QB. That is a testimony to how good Lee has played not how bad I feel Birdsong is.
