RE: OT: Where is the best place in Harrisonburg to buy a keg?
I ususally hit up Liberty gas station on the 1400 block of S Main St, by Wendy's & El Charro. Kegs these days going for about $90 on the cheap stuff, they're gonna get you on a $30 shell deposit and $60 tap deposit if you pay cash, and refund when you return them.

Mike's! Never once questioned my "alternate" ID.
By my Sr. year, they were taking peoples' fakes and displaying them on a wall.
I miss that place.

LOL! Classic!

So, Bulldog, this means you're in town? Wish I were coming for this game...
Hey, Dunk! Yeah, I've been in the burg since last Thursday for some family reunion time. I had free tickets to the UD game, but I thought we would lose so I stayed away. Sad as hell.
We just picked up a 250-pound pig that Terrence Apted is roasting Samoan style. Choke pig and a keg of beer. Mo' bettah'!
We have had a very nice visit. New grandchild (#5). Heading back to Hawaii on Wednesday.
Dahamm, that's a pig! Good thing you've got someone like Terrence around to rassle that thing. That and with an investment like that I'm guessing you won't be looking for a 19 dollar keg of Milwaukee's best. ha
Hope you have a good time, not sure how you couldn't, and congrats on Grandkid 5! Someone's been busy...
Thanks, Dunk! I guarandamtee we will have a good time!

Charged $1.00 for all you could drink to all who came and we would make enough for the next keg! Eagle 4. We could have kegs in dorms back then.
Those old wooden kegs were heavy so we rolled them around as much as possible.

I vaguely remember the frats were getting Milwaukee's Best from Mike's in the mid 90s, around 96', at some steep bulk discount. I vaguely remember around $28, and one week the discount went away and they went up to something like $41. Anyway, running that through an inflation calculator that would be like going from $42-$62 in today's dollars. Now I know food (and hence beer) has gone up faster than inflation over the last # of years for a # of factors, (one being ethanol), but I would have guessed the cheap stuff would be running around $70. Damn, $90 for a keg of Beast Light (or similar)?

You and I used to shop in the same places, I see. Not sure if they relocated, but there's a parking deck where this beauty used to be.
Lived right down the street from there my senior year and right around the corner from JM's. And still graduated!! Ah the (foggy) memories!

That sign says "beer off". Is that some kind of competition? Like "let's have a beer off!!!!". And are those kids on the stoop participating? Surely they grew up to be Dukes!

Beer Off means you have to leave the premises to drink it.

Yeah, but sometimes I can't wait. I have to enjoy a few in the check-out line.
Speaking of check-out lines, this actually, really happened, at the Harrisonburg WalMart (the one close to campus), several years ago. I had a 12-pack of brewskies, which I intended to purchase and consume at my leisure. When I got to the cashier, he carded me. I chuckled, as I was in my mid-fifties. It seems like the graying hair would have been a clue to the brain-dead cashier, but whatever. I endeavored to indulge his stupidity. I handed him my driver's license. He looked it over carefully and informed me that my driver's license was expired and he couldn't sell me the beer. (My license was expired by about a month, awaiting a SSA reconciliation related to the new 9/11 security requirements). I didn't know whether to laugh or grab the moron by the throat. I asked him if he was a state trooper or if he was just trying to verify my age, which was clear from my driver's license, expired or not. I told him to call over a manager. He did, and when the manager, who looked like he was sixteen years old, arrived, I explained the situation to him. He looked at the cashier like he had a third eye in the middle of his forehead and instructed, "Sell him the beer!" A grand time was had by all.
I just got back to Hawaii after two weeks in Virginia. I cannot begin to tell you how nice it is to be back home.
