Sky is the limit for GS, but it wouldn't shock me if someone like a Texas State or ULM took them down later in the year as injuries and attrition come more into focus.

I would agree with all this.

Biggest difference here is that because of the playoffs, the Southland could not recognize UCA as its champs because they were playoff ineligible.

NCAA has no such restrictions on FBS conferences, so the SBC can crown Georgia Southern Champs without issue.

The only way Georgia Southern can get a bowl bid is if there aren't enough bowl eligible teams to fill all the spots. It could happen, but isn't likely.

P.S. - Thanks to the App fans able to make the game, I know showing up on Thursday night to an away game probably isn't easy.

I hope you weren't treated too poorly, I do my best to make sure my friends stay civilized.

Sbc the conference where fcs move ups can immediately compete. Gs looked good. Great at times, app st werent near as bad as they seem at times, fix a few areas of stupidity and you have a pretty good team. It could have easily been a really good game.
Easily already in the top of the sun belt.
I guess you haven't noticed ODU or UTSA's success in CUSA out of the gate and those were a new program and one without the history of GS or APP. Truth is that any of the top tier FCS programs can be competitive in any of the G5 conferences fairly quickly. They won't win championships as often but they can compete with the extra scholarships. Heck, it wouldn't be difficult to enter the P5 leagues and be as good as their bottom half in most of those leagues.

Agreed.
however isnt cusa the old sbc.
Partially and the old SBC teams that were struggling in the SBC flourished in CUSA immediately. That goes back to the point that the SBC is no "weaker" than other G5s. If ODU, UNT, and UTSA can compete immediately in CUSA then GS succeeding in the SBC early on does not indicate anything unique about the SBC.

Wow. Must be nice to own a brush large enough to paint a whole state in one swath.

:-)
I wish I could have been there but I was 35000 feet in the air at kickoff. Just watched the replay and I am impressed with how well my Eagles played and in how great the stadium looked. It's a great day to be an Eagle!

This bolded part. This sarcasm. This is spot on.

When this round of realignment started the one thing I found surprising was that USM and ECU didn't put down their foot on the expansion talk and demand the league take schools more like them. Smaller markets, football crazy fan bases, with some history of success.

They had watched a long-line of schools with markets and often less success than they had enjoyed get in the front of the line to move out.

Long-term, this is what I like most about the Sun Belt football additions. Three of the four were not taken for market considerations, they fit the model of success in the league. Troy, AState, UL have been the major football players the past eight years and App, GaSo, and TXST look much more like them than the "market" schools FIU, FAU, UNT.

No. You didn't. Since you referenced a broad brush painting an entire state when someone who is actually capable or reading and comprehending would read and comprehend it was limited not to a state but a specific subset of fans.

Looking back at last year numbers.
The worst ESPNU Thursday night game for the Sun Belt last year was 73k for ULM-Troy. The best was AState-Troy with 137k.

You know, that's exactly what Furman said before we joined the Socon... The last time they won a Socon championship that they didn't share with GS was before GS joined the Socon.

If Furman had a quarter of the facilities we do...that point might be worth something.

By the way, get some temporary lighting in for the next television game. Looked like the game was played during a black out.

I noticed that too. Seemed a little dark in Paulson last night.
