Unfortunately this game will get out of hand. I hope I am wrong but I just don't see how we can keep it close when the Eagles have been hanging with ACC teams. You guys are leaps and bounds more prepared for this move than we are. Your guys look big and it appears you have beat us in recruiting. Unless like some have said we are red shirting everyone. We said that last year too. Hoping for a close game but this one gets lopsided I believe. Here's to no injuries and whooping everybody else we play.

I posted this in the trash talkin thread, but wanted to hear from the more civilized people on the board as well.

Okay folks, waving the white flag for a second. What is being done by both universities to enhance this rivalry?

We had the Old Mountain Jug with WCU. We dominated that series, but it was a great idea that started back in the 70's that had a classic symbolic trophy.

In our first year in the SBC we're likely bringing in the most heated rivalry the conference has ever seen. We need to take it a step further, bring in a trophy of some kind, name the game, and solidify this as the best SBC rivalry.

RE: Thread for serious discussion of App State @ Georgia Southern
Breida is legit! The new zone blocking scheme is working very well for the Eagles this year and Breida has the patience to find the hole and hit it with authority. He's also got enough speed that if he gets a step, it's off to the races! The QB Ellison seems to make good decisions and he too has enough speed to make a D pay.

I'm really impressed with Jay Ellison. He is a beast in the trenches. GSU has a pretty good group on the DL in Battle (when healthy), Ellison, Ejike and Sapp. The OL definitely needs to slow down the GSU DL if the offense is to have any success.

USA dropped a ton of passes (again) against GSU that killed drives. App can ill afford to have the same type of performance as the Jags or it will be a long night.

Keys to the game for GSU:
-get pressure on the QB
-force App to be one dimensional
-limit turnovers

For App:
-limit the big plays
-shut down the dive, don't over pursue and hit the pitch man
-balanced attack and get the ball out quickly

As for a "Black & Blue Brawl" trophy, I say go back to each schools' roots as a teacher college and make it a yard stick with one side being black and the other blue. Teachers use to dole out punishment with a ruler so this would symbolize the winner as spanking the loser with each team represented on each side. Maybe include the score of each game in the series on the trophy. If this isn't PC enough, make it a large apple that the winner gets to paint their school colors on. Or how about a bronzed dictionary?!

RE: Thread for serious discussion of App State @ Georgia Southern
I expect GaSo to have a coming out party in this game. They have all the intangibles working for them being on national television showcasing their upgraded digs and having an axe to grind against us considering their three game slide. If Satterfield opens up the down field passing attack before we get behind on the scoreboard it could makes things interesting for a while. Our starting WRs although solid and giving great effort simply don't have the talent to dominate at the FBS level. We don't have the depth in the hogs up front to battle like we need to over the course of a game. Our secondary is very young and inexperienced with mental lapses to show for it, otherwise our defense is the strength of this team. Our QB of the future has been ordained and the future for Lamb seems bright indeed, but he still lacks seasoning. Upshaw is still an incomplete running back and yet to solidify himself to spell Cox. We need two solid backs week in week out. Beyond that, GaSo simply is a better, more complete team. If Georgia Southern plays similiar to how they have thus far, I expect a solid beat down by the men in blue on Thursday night. It will be a great Sun Belt showcase game nonetheless.

Eh, that would be a no. The series between Louisiana and Monroe would have to be near the top and with 20+ more games played between the two it has way more history than our series with Appalachian.

I agree with you though about finding a trophy for this game, that adds interest to an already fun rivalry.

We typically bring eagle creek water in a milk jug, and doesn't App State Honorary Alum Tickle use those for production?

Tickle is from Virginia, but long time moonshine runner and NASCAR Legend Jr Johnson from just down the road in Wilkesboro has been known to haul a gallon or two around the roads of Watauga County. Although most if it was in Mason Jars.
