But for a pick-6 and 5 (Jesus wept) missed field goals (let that sink in, a 21 point swing), we'd have embarrassed their ugly orange asses.
Keep defending Callaway, then.
Whatever you say, Mrs. Brown.

200 losses says more about his coaching than anything you can write.

RE: zero ties record
Having witnessed what he did to the football PROGRAM as a whole, you have to wonder if Zero was just unfortunate to coach bad programs or if he did his part to make them as bad as they were regarded.

I just read on another board that Watson was strongly considered to replace Franchione at TCU. I don't believe it, but what might have been?

Watson was so great it took the Falcons 2 years to coach the Brown stain off Roddy White...specifically, his "work ethic." That's no bull****, look it up. It happens when you can hang out on the fence with your crew all week instead of practicing, then still start on Saturday. But you've yet to address that fact about life under Zero, either.
Fortunately for him, Roddy was smart enough to realize what he had at stake before the opportunity passed.

The Watson Brown Story - Small town coach becomes the Biggest Loser.
Big question is who would play Brown? We would have to have a young guy play a young Watson and then an older actor later in life.
I have to marinate on that one, I'm trying to think of any actors that may bear a resemblance to Watson (I thought that Callaway's nickname was "Zero", not Watson)...
Watson is "Zero" by a very specific, logical argument. Don't care enough to look up the thread, but people can label other coaches what they like...Watson is "Zero."

My bet would be that TCU really hit the skids.

My bet would be that their money people would have looked at his record and said "No, thanks."

Watson Brown and UAB went 2-1 against TCU, winning both games at Legion Field and only losing 24-27 at TCU.

RE: zero ties record
The difference between an "excuse" and a "reason" is often in the eye of the observer - and his prejudices. Anyone who argues that UAB entered upon its upward trajectory in football in 1990 with all the facilities it needed for success would be dreaming, not thinking rationally (see early statements by FBHC McGee). It is not just coincidence that facility development began to move from "planned" toward being "in place" when FBHC Clark was hired. He has learned from the experience of others before him that promises of "future facilities" will not enable him to succeed NOW so he likely had them understood as a condition of his employment. If two or three more years elapse before anything is actually done, UAB may be looking for its next coach too. I doubt that Clark will wait a decade and a half for anything to be done as Watson Brown did.
Is Clark a better coach with a better staff than Brown? We shall see if all other things remain equal.

RE: zero ties record
My problem with the article is that the entire thing paints him as a victim of circumstance. It doesn't address the fact he's just a crappy coach, period, and for reasons no one can understand, he keeps getting head coaching jobs.
Personally, based upon his behavior the last two years he was at UAB, I think the man has no morals and no ethics, and would kill his own mother to save his reputation from complete ruin.

a guy who worked with him at vandy described him to me and someone who would stab anyone in the back if he thought it would benefit him. he also said he would smile to you face and then talk bad about you as soon as your back was turned.

This is a historic moment. After I get home and finish watching the uab game I will look up the result of the tenn tech game and will celebrate if he gets the record.
