At this point, you have to wonder what exactly is the point of letting Blakeney retire on his own terms. An 0-12 season could literally destroy that football program for a few years.

Sometimes you get the bear, well you know the rest, kind of like today.

And holding a presser Monday and naming an interim coach accomplishes what? It's not like they'll make a permanent hire till after the season.

Depends. If the players have far more respect and confidence in Kenny Eddenfield, then it might be worth making the move and seeing you can salvage a couple league wins. Troy still has games against Georgia State, NMSU, and Idaho. The difference between 3-9 and 0-12 from a recruiting standpoint is gigantic. Ask FAU.

Troy cannot afford 0-12 recruiting against USA/UAB/GSU. Those bad seasons wrecked USM.

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if Troy beats ULM next week. That's the kind of stuff we pull, but at least ULM usually has Troy's number.

I agree. The question for Troy is not whether its going to make a gigantic difference season wise, its about whether or not you can salvage at least something out of what has been an awful season so far.

With motivation, they have the talent still to pull off a few league wins. Remember, these guys kept Duke Close for 3 quarters. Troy has already essentially been lapped by the South Alabama football program, and UAB is closing fast...There is a shining example a few hours to their West of what happens when you let a team have an 0-12 season.

We're talking the difference between recovering and becoming a bowl team again in a couple seasons, or potentially need 4 plus years to rebuild.

For the sake of the Sun Belt, that cant happen. We need all of our opponents to beat Troy to prove that they are the conference aberration.

Not saying it would work, but it would be a sign that they recognize there are significant problems, and they need to make changes.

Don't know if that would help in recruiting, but it would be a positive to come out of it. And maybe they can get a start talking to currently unemployed coaches (not sure if there are any worth their salt to be interviewed though).

I don't think it will happen, I think our D will give them fits. Historically, not in Berry era we lose games we shouldn't.

If he leaves now then you start to get phone calls from prospective coaches. You will be the first program to get calls this season. There may be an unemployed coach out there that is a slam dunk that you can rope in before other jobs start coming open. It also would allow you to get a look at your interim in charge and see what he can do. It also lets your fans and potential recruits know that change has arrived.

On the down side. I lived in Dallas when they fired Tom Landry. I did not meet a single person who had a good thing to say about Landry and who did not want him gone immediately. But when they fired him...the same people were outraged at the "way they treated a legend". So you have that to think of.

Also, I really want us 2-0 in conference heading into Jonesboro for the Redwolves home conference opener. Should be a heck of a game if that's the case.

More important to win late season games for your program, but would
throw UGa out of your minds.

take it from us, it can get real messy when you have to force out a legend, just ask Florida State and App. I really hate seeing this, you guys probably got some tough times ahead of you.

Troy looks like they basically gave up today.

Perhaps you should let Wayne Bolt coach the whole team.
