I will say he's done a good job but not great and I'm looking for great. Plus as good as Illinois is in theory they still had to come back on a FCS team and WKU. So it's not as impressive to barely loss to them. I feel like it's the status quo.

You're looking for great, but are we paying for great?
Last I checked, UTSA is 1-2 also. Yes they have impressed in some of their losses. (we've beaten Houston on the road too and we've impressed some in our losses as well)
and as good as Georgia Southern appears... they haven't completed an FBS season yet, so iMO the jury is still out.
I don't think either of those programs have proven to be doing a far and away better job with the transition than us. I really think we're being overly negative about our shortcomings and not giving enough credit for improvements.
This negative group-think rut our Alumni have, has us in a grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side mentality when the truth isn't so clear cut. We see UTSA and GS fans content with their progress and we think it must somehow prove that we aren't doing as well. I honestly believe those teams simply have more die-hard fans than us. They haven't been jaded by a decade of FCS mediocrity like we have.
Lets be honest... how often do you hear Fran get any props from the old-timers when we do well? How often do we hear the negative nancies of our fan-base say something positive about the program without adding a "but" to the end of it?
I do think UTSA has done SLIGHTLY better than us, but those are the breaks. Just because they are doing slightly better doesn't mean that we aren't doing a decent job as well.
