Morgantown Police Issue Warrant for Daryl Worley

Suspended West Virginia cornerback Daryl Worley turned himself in to Morgantown police Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with battery after an altercation with a woman outside a nightclub early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched to Lux Nightclub on High Street shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday and later obtained surveillance video that showed Worley “[grab] the victim around the neck with both hands and [push] her to the ground,” according to a news release from Morgantown chief of police Ed Preston.

Worley, 19, was pulled from the victim, and no serious injuries were reported.

Worley was arraigned in Morgantown Magistrate Court Wednesday and released on $10,000 bond. A battery conviction in West Virginia is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $500 fine.

Coach Dana Holgorsen announced Monday night that Worley, a sophomore, had been suspended indefinitely for a “violation of team rules.” Holgorsen declined to comment on the suspension when asked Tuesday if Worley’s suspension might be lifted before the Saturday night home game against No. 4 Oklahoma.

“Right now, he’s suspended indefinitely,” Holgorsen said. “We’re just going to leave it at that.”

Worley had emerged as the Mountaineers’ No. 1 cornerback and would have matched up against Oklahoma’s Sterling Shepard, who has receiving totals of 177 and 109 yards the past two weeks.

Worley had a team-leading two interceptions, 17 tackles and two tackles for a loss in three games this season. He will be replaced by a combination of backups Ishmael Banks, Terrell Chestnut and Jaylon Myers.

“Next guy up, that’s the mentality we have right now,” Holgorsen said. “The next guy up needs to get in there and play at a high level.”
