Cajun Tennis Classic ( for those who like Tennis)
The University will once again host the Cajun Tennis Classic, once a hotly contested stop for U.S. college tennis programs, that has been brought back to life in Lafayette for the first time since 1984 at the UL Tennis Courts. In the tournament’s tenure, it produced 20 Grand Slam winners or finalists, two U.S. Olympic gold medal doubles players and hosted 12 NCAA championship programs.
The Sept. 16-21 tournament will pit the Sun Belt Champion 61st-ranked UL against eight of the nation’s tennis powerhouses, including 8th-ranked Texas, 9th-ranked Georgia, 12th-ranked Kentucky and 46th-ranked LSU. ( all last years final rankings),Other teams coming to Lafayette include Oklahoma State, Wake Forest and TCU. Six of the eight teams that will participate in the Cajun Tennis Classic were in last season's NCAA Tournament, three teams won a conference championship last season.
Coupled with the collegiate tourney will be a children’s tennis clinic, which will host more than 500 local elementary school students, teaching them the ins and outs of the sport.

Glad to see this! We used to have some great tennis back in the mid 70's, early 80's. The Lafayette area has produced some very accomplished tennis players over the years!
