Though I think both have ULM winning the league because the Warhawks are in 1st right now.
I think this is a case of guys not really knowing the SBC and basing on scores. I fully expect ULL to rebound and win 7-8 games just as I expect USA to do. These guys are looking at the big conferences and the major bowls and then saying "hmmmmm about those other bowls"
When a team goes into the season appearing to be one (on paper admittedly) that would be expected to beat La.Tech and give Ole Miss fits in the first two FBS games they play, if your job is analysis you have to try to project some understanding of what is going on.
The swoon to finish the regular season last year was easily chalked up to injury, there has been no similar injury reported this year.
So what do you come up with as an answer? Hudd in year four has suddenly lost "it" and his coaching ship is sinking? Maybe but I doubt looking from outside that is my conclusion.
The more likely answer if your job is explainer is to assume something is wrong in the locker room. As AState's AD once told me about rumors the big boys might want to put more players on scholarship, "No one who knows anything about managing a team wants MORE player except in the year where you have the injury bug, you have too many locker room lawyers on a team as it is, add more guys not getting a lot of playing time, you get more of them."
My wild arse guess is that McMurphy believes the last two games are a sign of internal team problems. Now the Cajuns have to travel to Boise and play at the weird (for the Cajuns) hour of 9:30 pm so he likely project the Cajuns to be 1-3 heading into open date.
Now I personally don't see the Cajuns coming out of the open date and going 4-4 but if I were a national outsider who is guessing the team has internal problems, I guess I see where he is coming from.
