Distance Learning & Enrollment
WCU boosting enrollment via "distance learning". Others have been doing this for years -- Troy, Liberty, et al. Wonder if distance learners pay student fees, like athletic fees?

RE: Distance Learning & Enrollment
I'll be starting a fully online degree (hopefully) in the spring at ETSU. I'm pretty sure from what I can read is, yes, I will be paying student fees too.

RE: Distance Learning & Enrollment
You actually pay more for distance learning than for traditional courses. Correct me if I'm mistaken, anyone, but I've taken both online and regular courses at ETSU, currently enrolled in MBA program. The distance fee is in addition to all regular tuition and fees.

From the old school myself, not personally familiar with distance learning or online learning. Just curious, how would you compare online courses with regular courses?

You lose a lot online. It can't replace a traditional face to face lesson. I would not personally want to do an entire degree online, but for those who need the flexibility, there's the tradeoff. A very responsible person can probably learn a lot.

RE: Distance Learning & Enrollment
I think I'll be an exception to most. Online classes are well suited for me. One, I have ADD, so regular classrooms are difficult for me. With online, I can go more at my own pace and move forward, working at my own pace when I feel the class is progressing too slowly. Especially in more core level classes, where I tend to process faster than some, I get really bored and antsy waiting to move to the next topic. It has been a problem my whole life and online classes have typically worked out better for me. Then add in the fact that I already pretty much work "online" from home. My entire job is done remotely and I've never met a coworker in person. Online classes are pretty much ideal for me.

RE: Distance Learning & Enrollment
I learned more in online/satellite courses outside of my major than in class. Im starting back in January at Chattanooga State (GPA boosting) then going through a college in northern Minnesota. When im done, ill have a Master's degree, all done online in program that literally invented the major.
Its no different than traditional classes, you get out what you put in.

Hope ETSU is aggressively on the same path (below) across Tennessee. After all, ETSU has some rather attractive and unique degrees, with relation to actual jobs/careers afterwards, to take statewide and region wide to market the institution.

They already have a transfer program with Northeast State.

Of course they already have that transfer agreement --- I said go across the state of Tennessee setting up these transfer agreements. Seems that ETSU should be a university for all of Tennessee if MTSU is already on this path.
