4. Texas State...only one game of work so far.
5. Georgia Southern...weren't even playing at full throttle and got one-point short of the scoring record for our team. Don't say we should be embarassed to have played SSU unless you think MTSU should be as well.
6. Louisiana ... big letdown this week, obviously
7. Troy...decent showing against Duke
8. App State...played a bad team, but a team that's probably better than Southern, UAPB, and Savannah State though.
9. Idaho
10. New Mexico
11. Georgia State

It is New Mexico State or NMSU. The University of New Mexico or New Mexico is a member of the Mountain West Conference. I am sure your school does not want to be called Georgia, Georgia Tech, or Georgia State.

There is no complaining about what you are called, ULaLa has already claimed that position in the conference. 03-nutkick

4corners makes a valid point......just like I don't want to be called Arkansas, and I doubt you'd like to be called Alabama.

3. ULM.....Ya it was Idaho but a win is a win and ULM is 2-0.

4. NMSU....Nice come back on GA State. they will win some they shouldnt.

5. App State....Solid win against a FCS power. I fully expect App To handedly take care of business against a really bad Southern Miss program.

6. Ark State....Im not sold on Tennessee they are VERY young and have not proved anything. Not to mention the game wasnt really close anyhow.

7. Idaho....They stuck with ULM, but im not sold on ULM until they play more games.

8. TROY...Showed A LOT of improvement after the UAB game. More passing and first downs. Last week had a total of 272 yards. and we had 452 against Duke....I also feel UAB is underrated giving Miss State all they could handle.

9. Ga State....Stuck with NMSU and probably should have won. but baby steps.

10. ULL...Pretty much in the spot Troy was last week. Bad showing especially when ULL was talk up so much this year. Kiss the Cotton bowl good bye.

***Texas State had a bye week and I will not rank them.

#6?
I think that's way low....but everyone has their opinions. The team I saw yesterday would have beaten any team in the Belt.
Montana State could beat most SBC teams, easily.

If by "Most SBC teams" you mean Georgia State and maybe Idaho and NMSU, IF Montana State was having a good day...than yes.

They played the only team in the SBC they are not as good as or better than.

I'm sorry but you guys are confusing Montana and Montana St. Both are good FCS schools but Montana St will probably finish 3rd to 5th in the Big Sky this year. Eastern Washington is the giant killer out of that conference and they are a step above both Montana and Montana St.

See last months thread on 'Handles'

Everyone can and will use whatever references they drunkenly key out.

But, with input from just about every fanbase, I came to these:
( and they're about the most brief ways to type )

USA - South Alabama
App - Appalachian State
ArkSt - Arkansas State
GSU - Georgia State
GS - Georgia Southern
Idaho - Idaho
ULL - Louisiana LaFayette
ULM - Louisiana Monroe
NMSU - New Mexico State
TxSt - Texas State ( some Texas State prefer caps TXST - ok, but I'm keeping the contractions camel case )
Troy - Troy

(USA, App, ArkSt, GSU, GS, Idaho, ULL, ULM, NMSU, TxSt, Troy )

Learn 'em, live 'em, love 'em.

Was that said "tongue in cheek"? Campbell is not a FCS power. I do expect App to beat Southern Miss in a couple of weeks though.

Montana is probably better than any SBC team right now.

Granted it is early in the year, and some young teams like A-State will get a lot better as the year goes along, but most credible sources put Montana State above the other SBC teams.

Think Sagarin may have also TxSt above them, not sure.

There should be no credible source putting any SBC team ahead of A-State, and if they can stop losing players that will not change this year, and for sure not after this year. The offseason is over and this is the real world now.

He's been saying the same thing for a few years.

The fact that stAte has only lost three conference games total in the last three years certainly lends some validity to his belief.

If you honestly believe what you have typed here then you really don't appear to know much about football. Sagarin ratings are a bunch of mumbo jumbo mathematical formula that makes no sense whatsoever. For example, he somehow compares FCS to FBS when the level of competition is so much different week in to week out. In his current rankings, he has Bethune Cookman ranked above so many FBS schools because they beat a putrid FIU. He has Wake Forest, whose only win is against Gardner Webb, ranked ahead of 2-0 ULM, who beat them. He has Montana ranked 43 spots ahead of Wyoming, who they lost to in the first game. Sagarin is a joke.

Ummm... what? UT manhandled USU (the team that went 9-5 and beat NIU in a bowl last year) the week before and held them to one score in the 4th quarter. ASU put three TDs on the board and was a muffed punt away from being a scored down in the 4th quarter. The conference race is going to be tight but #6 is way too low based on early returns.

RE: Week 2 Power Rankings
Being new to the conference, I haven't seen enough of the SBC games for an educated opinion yet. My early personal observations of the teams I have seen play include:

1-ULM's defense looked scary good against Wake.
2-Can't believe the bad start for Louisiana based on how good they looked at times last year and the returning personnel.
3-GaSo has played better than I expected considering the change in coaching and offense.
4-App State is just missing something and I can't put my finger on it. Even against an overmatched Campbell they looked slow and sluggish at times, which is the opposite of most App teams. They do have 2 good RB's but not a lot else has stood out.
5-GaSt appears to be better but is still one of those teams that plays teams close but still manages to lose somehow. I do think they finally have a QB.
6-I do look forward to seeing USA in person in a few weeks.

I haven't seen the other teams yet play and will post a ranking once that has been accomplished.
