stAte vs piggy gear
I have a Facebook friend I went to TXST with 10 years ago. Her family moved to Little Rock. She has a few little kids and one gets to wear college team gear to school on Fridays. She bought him a piggy shirt cause it's all she could find in LR. He told her he really wanted a ASU Red Wolves shirt but shouldn't could find one. He told her thats really frustrating.

I'm sure she didn't try too hard but shows how a non to causal fan struggles to find what they want. TXST has the same problems throughout Texas.

Unless you're in Mobile, you can't find Jag gear, same for Troy and UAb gear outside their immediate areas. Troy you could probably find in Dothan and Montgomery though.

There's a sports shop in Mccain mall that's located in NLR that has a few red wolves stuff, including shirts. Sometimes random stores like a khols will have 1 or 2 shirts I've seen before, But besides going on a shopping spree whenever i'm in Jonesboro, I usually have to order online most of the time.

It made me happy to see the kid doesn't like the pigs but sad that the market pushes people to it.

RE: stAte vs piggy gear
that's absolutely true. 'Razorbacks' are so saturated and ingrain in the state media and overall culture that essentially you either join the mob or you're shunned/ridiculed.

I've always been against the grain since I was little so I never really gave a fudge. :D

Wow, seriously can I get the kid some stAte gear? You can find Red Wolf gear here in the LR area, but you almost have to study before heading out in order to find the few places with stAte memorabilia in Central AR, and most of us do not have that much time. Must be a bright kid to go against what he's being spoon fed by the LR media and actually did his homework and decided to support the Pack over the pigs.

Good example of child abuse. Get her a shirt before DHS hears of it. I'm sure she had good intentions.

McCain Mall has the best selection in LR, as has been said. Next time they have to make a trip to that area have them check there.

Same story different state... Can really find any southern gear north of Macon, not that there is really anything to buy from between Macon and Statesboro... Basically have to use the internet, or go to Statesboro.

Wow. App stuff is pretty much available from Raleigh westward. It's not the selection of the Big 4, but it's definitely there to be had.

RE: stAte vs piggy gear
I find this amusing because tonight I was at McCain Mall in North Little Rock and my daughter bought a Red Wolf shirt from a kiosk (some Red Wolf girls thing), bought a Red Wolf shirt at Wilk's Dugout for my son from the 10 or so styles available, my wife looked through the multiple window decals because she wants a decal for our new car, I looked at an AState fan cave sign at Wilk's, and then I went to Lids and looked over the five different styles of AState hats available for sale.

I've not been to the Kohl's in Sherwood in some time but I've bought shirts there and my wife bought the whole family AState pajama pants there one year for Christmas.

I walk out of the door every work day carrying my coffee in a Tervis AState tumbler from Bed, Bath, and Beyond in North Little Rock and my daughter has an AState blanket (my wife says it is a "throw"??) from there.

I don't shop much south of the river, but I know from experience finding AState merchandise in North Little Rock / Sherwood isn't that hard.

Its a lot harder South of the River. We've made a lot of inroads North, but everything seemed to settle in that same area. Not much has settled to the South.

Lucky you weren't looking for UALR apparel. My wife asked me the other day "Why don't they have UALR stuff at Wal-Mart, they have a whole hogs section". I said good luck with that. They occasionally have some UALR stuff at Target on University and in West Little Rock (although I didn't see any there today). Of course, we are talking about Targets 2 miles and 6 miles from the University, respectively. Any further than that, you can forget about finding anything. Rarely, if ever, see any ASU stuff on the LR side of the river.

I bought an App State tumbler glass in Fredericksburg, VA not so much because I wanted one at the moment but rather because I was shocked to see one for sale.

Wish I could remember which small-town GA Wal-Mart I was in a couple of years ago and looked in their college gear section. They had the general southeast array that you sometimes see...FSU, UF, Bama, maybe GT, and obviously lots of UGA stuff. And then there was one random Georgia Southern product, a pink plastic water bottle. I wished later that I had bought one to give to a GS friend, just out of principle and enjoying the randomness of it.

I used to take pictures every time I saw UALR apparel in Little Rock just because it was so novel.

One of the big things we battle is that the majority of the major retailers are stocked by what the National chain thinks area fans want. In Jonesboro when a new store is opened, its almost always initially stocked by largely Pig apparel, only to change to largely ASU after a few of our fans start writing nasty letters of complaint.

There was a big battle when Buffalo Wild Wings came into town, stocked the entire place with UAF crap and a Random Derrick Fisher jersey, and then claimed they wouldn't have ASU stuff because we wouldn't give them freebies.

What made it really bizarre was that the BWW in Sherwood has AState stuff.

It sounds like some of those issues could be with the University's marketing/licensing department. My wife is on the fashion/retail merchandising faculty at her alma mater VCU. One thing we noticed was how hard it was to find VCU merchandise even here in Richmond outside of the campus stores. One project she has her students work on each semester is expanding the marketing to the wider community, and she has found that the University did almost no marketing in that regard up until a year or so ago. Now they work hard on getting free merchandise into those local establishments like restaurants where it will be displayed, and onto the buying plans for retailers before customers ask for it.
