Wake had 5 first downs, -3 yards rushing, 94 yards total offense, and only 3 points off offensive plays. I've seen some exceptionally stinky offensive play under the Chan Gailey era. But that was an abomination.

How does this guy keep finding coaching jobs??? I can't remember the last time he made a positive impact.

Clawson? He did well at Richmond and Bowling Green I thought.

Is Mason so bad as a head coach that they'll go 1-11 under him but would have gone 9-3 under Franklin or someone else? That's very, very unlikely. Much more likely is that Mason inherited a team that was going to be bad this year no matter who was coaching them.

Now now, do not attribute 9-3 to me. I am saying he very likely could have gotten them up for the game better. His departure alone can have an affect. Possibly learning a new offense and/or defense can have that affect, especially in the first game.

This is just one game, talking about Vanderbilt's final record already is a bit much. You may if you like, but don't attribute that drastic of a statement to my words.

I agree Franklin would have gotten them up and better prepared to play. But, Franklin took a significant part of last year's recruiting class with him, or lost them altogether when he changed positions. Vandy's cupboard is pretty bare.

Still by all accounts, and given the talent remaining on the team, this was a colossal and embarrassing fail even by Vanderbilt standards.
Put another way, the SEC team got their asses handed to them by an AAC team projected to finish near the bottom of the AAC. Repeat after me the "SEC is overrated."

We'll wait until the end of the season to make that determination. To have you gloat over a victory over a new coach of the annual cellar dweller in the SEC just shows the degree of desperation in which you live. It didn't even involve your school!

I was thinking the exact same thing when this was posted. Temple is still Temple and even the AAC Fanboys knows that. ANY team would have won by the way Vanderbilt played for most of that game. That is what they are not telling anyone.

Come and talk to me if that is Ole Miss or Georgia you beat up, let alone Alabama or Aluburn

In fairness, (a) Vandy is hardly representative of the SEC, and (b) While Temple did squash them, the game pivoted on the scoop and score that gave Temple a 21-7 lead, and that was the result of a terrible call by the field and booth officials. The Vandy runner was obviously down before the ball came out, and if the correct call is made it's a whole different game.

Syracuse 17 - Villanova 17
1:03 4th

2nd and Goal Villanova.

Syracuse lost this game with HORRENDOUS clock management at the end. They willfully let Villanova burn the clock and kept their tired D out there when they could have made a stop and left themselves time to mount a drive.

Al Groh is doing color commentary on the broadcast. I'll pause here for the laughter on that.

The clock management is so bad Al Groh is making fun of it. I'll pause here for the laughter on that.

You've reached a low low when Al Groh can make fun of you, legitimately, on TV.

OMG .... Jesus is in the Carrier Dome.

Villanova choked a PAT + 5 yards ... straight up the gut .... that would have won it with 16 seconds left.

Missed a 34 yarder in 1st Q as well.

I wonder how many Syracuse fans think Coach Shafer has the team headed in the right direction?

Syracuse had literally among the worst playcalling and clock management I have ever seen in both OT. Then somebody with HUGE testicles calls a fake FG and (*gasp* ... ) a play that WASN'T a deep tailback handoff in a bootleg fake pass for a TD.

Syracuse 27 - Villanova 26 .... Final ... 2OT

Villanova scored and went for 2. Syracuse stopped the QB delay for the first time all night. Game over.

Syracuse didn't deserve to win that game in the least.

I would have pulled the plug after last season. It is very clear that he has no idea how to actually manage in game. The only thing worse than his game management is the OC and his play calling.

WKU may be the first team to not meltdown after Petrino departure.

I have no problem with Nova going for the win there, not at all. I liked the decision

Nothing wrong with the decision but the play call was dumb as hell.
