Geogia Tech -vs- Mercer 2016 " Sounds Like GT Might Be Affraid"
Hi Bear Fans, came across this article while surfing the AJC Sports(dated August 12) and thought that it was good stuff.

First: The comments section was a hilarious read, with 79 comments mainly about how Georgia Tech should not schedule Mercer. Implying that the program was just not strong enough, and it was a embarrassment to schedule us.

Second: The most amazing part of the comments centered around the size of the program difference, with Tech Fans ignoring or forgetting that they lost the first game every scheduled with Mercer.

And given the past of the FBS Schools-v - FCS Schools, over the last five years, they have not faired well with FCS Schools: UR v Duke (twice), GSU v Florida), App. State v Michigan etc...

Article:
Tech, Mercer Play in 2016
By Ken Sugiura

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia Tech has contracted to play a 2016 non-conference game against Mercer, which is fielding a team this year for the first time since 1941.

The game is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2016 at Bobby Dodd Stadium. In a statement, athletic director Mike Bobinski said the game is an effort to play in-state teams. On top of the annual game against Georgia, Tech will play Georgia Southern in 2014. The only two other Division I schools with football teams are Georgia State, which is moving up to the Sun Belt Conference this year to play in FBS, and Savannah State at the FCS level. Kennesaw State will field its first team, to play at the FCS level, in 2015.

Mercer will play in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League in 2013, but join the Southern Conference in 2014. Mercer was the Yellow Jackets’ first-ever opponent in 1892 – a 12-6 win for the Bears at Macon’s Central Park.

I think they are afraid of the Bear Beat Down!!!!

Great read especially given our thread this week about UGA v Mercer 2017.

It looks like that was from last August? Before we even played a full season. I can see why some may have thought it was a mistake. Mercer is proving to be a quality FCS program that is on the rise, and this game isn't until 2016 when the team is at maximum scholarships. Of course it's a guarantee game for GA Tech, and Mercer isn't "supposed" to win... but we know that doesn't always translate to a "W" for the bigger school. Go Bears!
