SWC name is available and someone with TXST ties has the "in" on it. (as was discussed on BCF forum a couple of years ago)

the swc name is not available. I read not long ago in an article quoting some big 12 big wheel from one of the old members that it is trademarked or something, never to be used again. maybe there is something very similar available. instead of The Southwest Conference, drop the The..

Te old SWC was full of high flying offense that was exciting to watch. Houston's Andre Ware brought the program more notoriety than ever before. The SWC was also full of renegades, highlighted by SMU and their fat wallets. We need more of Eric Dickerson and his gold hot rod. For any of the negatives that the old conference represented, it also brings back memories of rivalries and just plain old fun.

With the death of the WAC, the unsteady position of Idaho and New Mexico State, and the overall spread out vastness of the Sun Belt, I start thinking about what would happen if a new conference based on schools mostly between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains came into being.

You would have to start with football programs that already play at the FBS level. Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas State, Idaho, and New Mexico State come to mind. Do those schools really have much in common with the Alabama and Georgia schools that make up the core of the Sun Belt? The Sun Belt seems destined to evolve more into an eastern league with the addition of Appalachian State and the discussion of adding programs like Liberty, James Madison, and Eastern Kentucky.

The key would be forming a new league that highlighted high flying offense in addition to high quality basketball. That's where the western schools of the Missouri Valley come in. Wichita State needs to bring back football and they already have a 30,000 seat stadium in place. Creighton is gone, so what would be holding them back? Missouri State has been flirting with the idea of moving up and Northern Iowa could join Idaho as another dome team in the new conference.

Arkansas State, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Texas State, and Wichita State would be an awesome foundation to a new conference. The basketball would be outstanding. Wichita State, Missouri State, and New Mexico State have a history together in the old Missouri Valley Conference when it sponsored football. North Texas and Tulsa were also part of the fun. Denver and Texas-Arlington would be good additions if they added football, or maybe a Western Illinois, Lamar, or Houston Baptist would move up and join the fun.

There are too many logistics to starting a new conference for this to ever work, but that's the kind of thing that rolls around inside my empty brain.

This is written by Jason Jones a Louisiana Tech dipstick! Notice there is no mention of Tech in this article? That is because Jason Jones thinks Louisiana Tech is far to above UL and Arkansas State to be mentioned in such a conference. Problem with this scenario is Tech and ULM will be out of money much sooner than UL, so while this article is entertaining and idiotic at best, having both of those programs listed as conference members would be closer to reality.

Good rivalries potentially.

Idaho/NDSU
NMSU/TXST
Missouri St/Arkansas St
ULL/ULM
USA/Troy
Georgia St/Georgia Southern
App St/Liberty

I like the chemistry in that football conference a lot. That is what Benson should be tasked to do, improve chemistry in the conference.

You may be surprised to learn that not all Troy fans consider South Alabama a rival, it's just another game.

kit - don't link App State vs Liberty. We have one true rivalry with Georgia Southern. That's it. Will never be LU as a rivalry.
You do it again and I am going to "out you".
OK, going to go ahead and out you. You are an Ohio fan.

How far is Georgia Southern from Appalachian State?

Its like Ohio trying to say its true rival is Temple.

What do you think you have to be butt cheek to butt cheek for two schools to be rivals with each other. Maybe in the MAC area a high school mentality of how close your high school is prevails but not in the real world.

My point is the GS/ASU rivalry has to do with the fact both were powers in the Southern Conference for years less than geography.

That is like Boise St and Fresno St being rivals or Florida and Tennessee rivals when Spurrier and Fulmer were at HC at those schools. The dynamic in the SEC has changed.

Moving forward I don't expect Appalachian State and Georgia Southern to be as dominant in the SBC as the Southern Conference. The recruiting dynamics of this new age are completely different. Old Dominion could end up becoming the Boise State of the South with a new stadium and a large market with no pro sports.

FCS day at Ohio University. Liberty gets their 400,000 dollar pay day and lopsided loss.

We bring a Southern Conference or Big South team almost every year to the stadium for a 1 and done. What we've found is those schools will travel well for it.

When football season does start, does that mean you'll have something else to do besides troll a conference you're not a part of?

I know... wishful thinking.

The SWC is owned and trademarked by The Big XII and such a historic conference shouldn't have its name soiled.

New name Coog? Were you even alive then?

FYI
http://csnbbs.com/thread-690553-post-107...id10784356

He is a Lamar grad and Lamar is associated with TXST by virtue of being part of the TSUS. I said someone associated with TXST (ties to). I didn't say he went there nor that the U owned the name.

The intellectual rights are owned by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame; not the B12.

One is always jealous of a school lead by the great and mythical legend known as Hayden Frye.

Just to be clear: You are on a conference board that you are not in, speaking on a topic that has ZERO to do with your university, but I am the one that needs to get a life?

I believe the phrase is: Physician, heal thyself.

And with those names being thrown into it. Just would kill the SWC name and tradition. Don't get me wrong a few of this enamels are great but you would water down one of the best historic conferences name
