It really kills you guys that your only tradition is losing, doesn't it?

Well, that and not being watched or cheered for by more than like 135 fans at any one time.

Let me know when y'all get 30k to a game. For a team that had zero tradition

And if it weren't for hosting GS, you'd probably only get 30k fans total all season long.

Keep thinking that. Ticket office said the Air Force game is just behind the Georgia Southern game in ticket sales.

RE: Christening in the traditions...
I have a fun idea. Let's go over some time-honored, Georgia State traditions.
1. Desperately throwing money at people to get fans.

2. Playing in an empty stadium.

3. Proper nutrition during practice. (notice the ice cream truck specifically caters to daycares)

4. And my personal favorite: Sucking at football.

What a storied legacy. Y'all must be so proud...

We are also SURROUNDED by a sea of woofing, red clad, die hard Bulldog lovers. Whose families have been that way for generations. We're 200 miles away from at least half our alumni base, an hour away from the closest metropolitan area and until recently little to no media coverage. WINNING was the only way we were gonna make this work. We scraped up fans little by little and the college grew to a university (6000 to 20000+). Yeah, we're loud and proud and can't stop singing our own praises... but for 30 years, that was the only way we could get anyone in I-A to hear us. We've EARNED our way in.

You on the other hand are SURROUNDED BY YOUR ALUMNI!!! In a major media market, where the woofing dawg fans are drowned out by a broad variety of fans... most of whom aren't within two states of their alma mater... and looking for something to do on a Saturday. You've got no excuses for not having succeeded, even marginally, by now!

Yeah, good luck with that.

If Georgia Tech won 4 games in past 3 years, there would be nobody at Bobby Dodd this season. You know that.

People don't strive to be part of a losing tradition, unless you are a Cubs fan. Tradition is built by winning. We win, and you watch what happens.

YEAH... that's already happened. Having grown up in the 80's, in a Yellow Jacket family, and suffered through season after season of 1-10, 3-8, 2-9...
I've witnessed it first hand. It was indeed a thin crowd, 30000 or so per game.

I admit, it is amusing to watch the App and Georgia State fans gang up on Georgia Southern. Nice to see some little rivalries already developing for those guys. Once MTSU, Hayden Fry, and WKU left the rest of us started running out of teams to hate.

No worries there, we seem to be good at drawing a lot of hate wherever we go.

Hell I was drinking in Paul's Deli in Willamsburg the night before the ODU game in 2012 and ended up talking **** to W&M's DC who was in there after a recruiting trip. The problem? It was about a game 2 years in the past.

Yea we're special......or maybe just me.

Win 4 games the next 3 seasons and the attendance goes down.

We're just a piddly commuter school who shouldn't be here. But... we got 30k in the door. They weren't supposed to open up the upstairs, but had to. They wouldn't do that for freebies. We got them once. We will get them again.

WTF...

You guys started with a $20M+ athletic budget, in a city of millions, an enrollment of about 30K, playing in an NFL stadium, and shot to FBS in just a few years despite being among the 5-10 worst D1/FCS programs in the nation. Have built nothing.

We started playing in a small high school stadium, enrollment of just about 5000 or so, in a community of a few more thousand, with no money for jerseys or equipment (donations from local high schools for the extreme bare necessities), the only "bling" we had was a piece of white tape on the helmet), and "owned the second tier of college football" in just a few years. Have built everything from the ground up and earned and scrapped for every penny.

Georgia State had everything handed to them and had everything needed for success....except people who cared.

Georgia Southern had nothing except people who cared.

I do laugh because you guys are spending so much time on making fun of the Panthers, that you are letting App sneak by.

I mean, making fun of Georgia State football is going to be a Sun Belt tradition until the Panthers ultimately start beating the rest of us. But we're all too nervous to take a shot at the Mountain Folk.

You are right. We should just fold up. Shut everything down.

You guys got it easy. You get to cling to Erk, like UGA clings to Dooley. You cling to something that was set in motion long before you stepped on campus, and long before it was under the microscope of the digital media of today. You are right. We don't have your tradition or your FCS championships, but I wouldn't trade my spot for yours. Most of you weren't there when it started in 81 for Southern. I am a season ticket holder from season 1. You can't say that you were the foundation that your tradition was built on. Us "135" fans are that. It is a lot easier to fall in love with a winner. It is a lot harder to dance with the one that brought you when you have the likes of Georgia Tech across the street and UGA down the road.

Us "135" have been through tougher times with a program than you could ever imagine, and yet, we stick it out. But please continue to tell me how much better fans you are for sticking it though with your winning program. If you hadn't won a home game in almost 3 years, you'd be lucky to have 10k in Statesboro. After all, you topped out at 16k for your mediocre 7 win season last year.

App gives Georgia Southern crap because they want to BEAT us.

GaState tries to give us crap because they want to BE us.

Already looking at ordering my tickets for the Arkansas State game. Got way too much family in the Atlanta area to not take advantage of this trip.

The only reason I'm not talking about App yet is I'm tired of seeing the dialogue going like this:

Me: The sky in Boone is blue.
DrGonzo: THANKS FOR THE BULLETIN BOARD MATERIAL LOL
Me: /facepalm

Just wait til the week we play. It'll happen.

Nothing rivals the pregame talk from when we played NDSU though....there was 250 pages of posts before the game even started. I'm not joking either. App has been fairly weak the last few years though so I guess they've lost some of their ferocity as fans.

Or they could just be cutting the grass for all their football players this offseason.

No one every questioned your loyalty to your school. And I give props to the 135 that have stuck around. We all know some of the loudest mouths haven't (SaintDK).

We went through a tough time from '06-09 (3-8, 7-5, 6-5, 5-6 with some very ugly losses in the mix) but myself and thousands others stuck by our team through the hard times, and now we get to enjoy the good times. Hopefully you guys will too.

But in the mean time, watch your filthy mouth when talking about Erk. 04-cheers

Appy and GS have traded blows for years. We could get in a dust-up at any moment, don't be fooled. But, with all the hate, there is also a mutual respect carved out over a couple of decades.

State, however... 05-mafia

The stadium only sat 15,000 last year due to construction. So, yeah, even in a down year that we had nothing to play for and playing in a construction zone, we still maxed out the capacity.
