I would think the line would be something like Ark. St. by 16.

Montana State should be down from last years performance. The line appears to be reasonable. I have no idea about Ark St or what type team they should have this year. But with it being a historically top level FCS team against a Sun Belt team the line looks ok. [/i]

For what it's worth, Montana is ranked number 5 in the preseason know-it-all coach's poll.
Both Southern and App have a ton of experience with Montana. Both Montana & Montana St. are good programs though. If you have the chance to watch Montana play at home, check it out.
Long story short, don't **** with anyone on that list. Have your athletic dept. consult with the forum prior to scheduling FCS opponents. Y'all will beat them, but there are easier ways to go.

I don't know, I'd gladly play North Dakota State just for the experience. I think we learn more from those games than we'll ever learn from UAPB. The top FCS schools can expose your major issues.
Last year we had a ton of major issues, but they never got exposed until Auburn because UAPB was so awful it didn't matter.

Southeastern LA at Tulane should be a fun ballgame to watch.

No chance this game is that close. Easy money if you are a gambler.

What I'd like to know is why we keep scheduling Savannah State.

Montana (UM - Missoula, MT) and Montana State (MSU - Bozeman, MT) are not the same school. They are 204 miles apart.
MSU is the state's Land Grant U - enrollment 15,294 (2012). They also stole our mascot.
UM is the Flagship of its own system - main campus enrollment 14,946 (2012)

You don't want any part of North Dakota St. I think ESPN taking Gameday to Fargo has made them out to be a little more mystical than they really are, but they're still nothing to **** around with.
The Bison might slip a bit with Bohl gone, but taking them on is the epitome of a lose-lose scenario for pretty much any FBS team that isn't top-25 caliber. They have tons of size, a great defense, and negate their lack of playmakers by rarely ever turning the ball over.
NDSU probably loses to stAte or ULL 80 percent of the time, but it wouldn't be worth it to play them.
All that said, I'd be glad to see GS welcome them down to Statesboro to see how they fare at 1 p.m. on a 90 degree day in early September. We owe them a couple.

We are probably going to have 4 freshman linemen in the 2 deep - two on each side of the ball.
First time head coach too. Even with the mightly Malzahn it took several games for him to get his sea-legs and figure out (and trust) his team. Harsin had a rough time of it as well but the assistants came through and saved it in the end. It only took Freeze about a half to figure it out since he was OC the year before. We need Anderson and crew to best Malzahn and hit the ground running in game one.
Freeze had to figure it out fast. He really wanted to stick it to Memphis for not considering him for their job when they hired Larry Porter, so he wanted everything on tune that game. 50-3 showed it was.
Freeze had a massive advantage. He already had a year with the team, he knew what talent he had when took the job. He knew which assistants were worth keeping and which weren't. He had already installed his offense.

Not remotely analogous as we aren't talking about a program that just transitioned(or currently transitioning) like GS.
We're talking about one program that has been FBS for decades compared to a FCS program.

I think that's ridiculously low considering we've beaten our FCS opponents by an average of 40 points the last 10 years. So I just have to ask, is Montana State really that good, or are these odds makers really out of their minds?
Short answer is that Montana St is a quality program and has been for a while. They've put a scare or two into G5 and Pac12 teams in the past decade.
2013 L @SMU 31-30
2010 L Wash St. 22-21
2008 L Minnesota 35-23
2006 W Colorado 19-10
2005 L Oklahoma St 15-10
Having said that...I'd take -8 all day long and twice on Saturday.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see that line bet up past 10 as high as 14 closer to game time.
stAte had Ryan Aplin when we faced UCA last in 2011, and we opened up a 17 point favorite and the line went to 20.5. UCA's QB was out and we pulled away and won 53-24.
The week before that UCA took La Tech to the wire in Ruston ( OT if I recall ) in a game in which they were 17 point dogs.
I don't think it went to OT, but we were lucky to get out of that game with a win. FCS teams beat FBS teams every year. It isn't at all unusual. FCS teams usually enter those games with something to prove while the FBS team is looking ahead. That is always a mistake. Ask Michigan.

Um, Yeah....it went into OT tied 42-42 and Tech won by 6, 48-42. A little research helps.

NDSU lost about 10 three year starters, there will be a drop off, even in a watered down FCS.
I do notice that the shift in power at the FCS level is westward though.

Montana State is no joke, they're typically among the best of the FCS.

If Montana State has lost a lot from last year, and is still ranked in the preseason polls.....we'd better be ready.

Ha, that will tend to happen when two of the top FCS teams (who happen to be in the east) leave for FBS.
