Think GaSt would rather close down than to do that.
Wouldn't blame them.

This has to be a home run hire.

Good question. Haven't heard if he is part of final five.

There was a reason I was keeping quiet on this issue.

App State AD Charlie Cobb and Southern Illinois AD Mario Moccia are confirmed finalists for Georgia State job. http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/college/f...rge/ng2j7/

"Moccia has led an $80 million campaign to build a new football stadium, renovate the basketball arena and construct a 50,000-square foot team facility. According to his bio on the school’s website the facilities opened in 2010, just four years after he was hired."

"Cobb is in his 10th year in Boone, where the university has undergone more than $50 million in facilities upgrades. He has family in Atlanta and in the 1990s worked for the Atlanta Sports Council, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Georgia Dome."

Interesting that Cobb wants the GaSt job. Cobb must feel like he's been at App too long and may begin to fall in the category of "why hasn't he been offered a better job, something must be wrong with him". Of course I think it pays a lot more.

Oh well... Cat's out of the bag now. Was hoping it could be kept quiet. Ten years is a long time for an AD to stay in one place at the sub P5 group. Charlie has accomplished about all he can at App. Built great facilities, put a national championship football program together, saw the athletic fundraising go from $750 K to almost $4 million, got the program from FCS to FBS and he is a city boy. If Cobb gets the gig at Ga State hope we get the guy from SIU.

Georgia State is a much more desirable job than it has been in the past. With the Turner Field proposal becoming more and more realistic, the next AD has the opportunity to build something really special at Georgia State (literally).

Does Cobb have a good rapport with the App State faithful?

A couple of years ago Cobb was a finalist for the SouthernMiss job.
Some said he was going to get it but withdrew his name when he got more information on the financials. Not sure. However that was before SouthernMiss went into a nose dive in football.

Some want him to fall off the edge of the earth, but some like him.
Pretty typical probably.

Depends on who you talk to. Some of the Jerry Moore faithful still carry a grudge against him, but the facts clearly show Charlie was in the right. Have to give Cobb credit for getting our program turned in the right direction back in 05. Went to the new chancellor and got budgets increased for all the sports, cut deals with Nike for uniforms and equipment, putting all the teams in top notch hotels and traveling first class.

Also, he was up for the Clemson job when the guy from GT got hired.

I think coming to Atlanta would be good for him. It's his home town and he's got lots of connections here. He's who I'm rooting for. The SIU guy wouldn't be a bad consolation though. Looks like he's done a hell of a job over there.

Intrigued as to who the other 3 are but these two are good.

The one thing I do know about Charlie is,that app state has been better since the day he got on campus.

Mixed bag. He's done a lot of things right with a couple of glaring exceptions. Much like any AD that's been somewhere 10 years you can find parties of both sides.
