go to the TXST game and leave there on Sunday and drive across country to Georgia Southern then home
+1 on this one. My wife and I did a road trip from middle Georgia to San Antonio a few years back. Great trip.
San Antonio to Savannah is 17.5 hours. Depending on what you want to see, you have a couple of options. San Antonio to Mobile is a no brainer, and roughly 10 hours of the drive. You'll pass through Houston, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans (assuming you don't cut it off with I-12) and Mobile in that stretch.
After that, you can either cut across Alabama (I-65 -> I-85) but there's not much there, or you can continue on I-10 through the Florida panhandle. At least there you can check out some of the Forgotten Coast beaches (ex: Destin for a little more touristy beach, St. George Island for a much quieter experience).
If you stay on the I-10 route, you'll pass through Tallahassee and Jacksonville before going up the coast on I-95 to Savannah. Spend some time there, then catch the game on Saturday in Statesboro and fly home on Sunday out of Savannah or Atlanta.
For a week long tour of the southeast, that's a tough route to beat. As an added bonus, if you like college football (and you do), you'd have the opportunity to tour quite a few FBS stadiums along the way. By my count, on the full I-10 route, you'd be able to see:
- Texas State (San Marcos)
- UTSA (San Antonio)
- University of Texas (Austin) [maybe]
- University of Houston (Houston)
- University of Louisiana (Lafayette)
- LSU (Baton Rouge)
- Tulane (New Orleans)
- South Alabama (Mobile)
- Florida State (Tallahassee)
- Georgia Southern (Statesboro)
- Georgia State/Georgia Tech (Atlanta) - assuming you fly out of here
22.5 hours, 1500 miles, and 1 pretty epic vacation
Damn, I want to do this trip again now.
