#30 and 31. Huh.

I get that it's a lot of new parts and new Staff and all the rest, but uhhh, anyone else really believe there are 29+ teams/programs that will be a better product on the field?

I'm not buying that. I hope the players take a little umbrage at this as well.

RE: 2014 FCS Coaches Poll
There's been an overhaul of the program with MM's departure and EW's arrival. Personally, the sky's the limit. But we are starting from an average position all things considered. I'd be likely to spot us somewhere around 20, but I would much rather be too low than too high to start the season. I have a hard time believing that this year's team will play any worse than last year's team.

There certainly were the last two seasons.

Even if this isn't the case this season (which I'm not convinced yet), FCS rankings are notoriously lazy. We can go 8-1 in our first 9 and I still think we would be outside the Top 10.

...

True, but disgustingly sad. I guess this is how Alabama fans felt after the '00, '01, '03, '04, '06, and '07 seasons.

We have had nowhere near the success or tradition that Alabama has had. I hate when we compare ourselves as the FCS' this or that. I'd say we are much closer to Tennessee than Alabama.

That would be after Week 10, after the Nov 1 games. There won't be 10 teams after Week 10 will be 8-1/9-1. There probably will be more like 4-5. Any CAA team that is 8-1 in early Nov will be in the top 5-6 of any polls.

RE: 2014 FCS Coaches Poll
This isn't a Coaches' poll. Its an SID poll called a coaches poll. The coaches don't have time for this stupidity. This is how stupid this is- its based off of last years playoffs. All they did was mostly take last years playoff teams and playoff results, and switched a few teams around.
-NDSU is ranked #1, despite only 8? starters back and new HC.
-4 semi final teams are all in top 7 (even TU, who was picked 5th in CAA)
-8 qtr final teams are all ranked in the top 11.
-16 2nd round (round of 16) teams are ALL ranked in the top 18.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_NCAA_D...all_season

Of the top 14, ALL were playoff teams last year.
Of the top 20, 18 were playoff teams last year.

The 5 non playoff teams in the top 25:
#15 UNI 7-5
#16 Chatty 8-4
#19 Mt State 7-5
#21 YSU 8-4
#22 W&M 7-5
#24 UR 6-6

The only playoff teams not ranked:
#26 Samford
#32 S Utah
#36 SC State- MEAC- enough said
#39 Sacred Heart- NEC- again, enough said.
-Lafayette: remember they got the Patriot AQ at 5-6
-Butler- Pioneer- a joke.

I don't feel like taking the time to do it, but someone else can go look up last year's pre season and end of season polls and I bet around 1/2 the teams in the pre season poll weren't there in the post season poll.

2014 FCS Coaches Poll
I'm not really sure what you guys think we've done in the last five years to deserve a respectable pre season rank. Granted, I think by the end of the year we are a borderline playoff team, but come on, it's not like we've done anything to deserve automatic consideration as a perennial top 10.
