It was measured on the field.

I've said myself at times in the stands that it didn't sound loud, but then any microphones down on the field were getting distorted from the noise. Unless you've been down on the field you don't understand how it all looms over you, even with the shallow grade.

But seriously, come back this year. You won't think it's quiet.

Nah. I remember the school tweeting the reading when it happened. I spent 3 years in the field in paulson. Shot gets loud. Just as loud as it is in Boone, if not a little more.

ya...... I wouldn't go that far, Apps stadium position is unique in that we have the mountains right on top of the stadium where sound hits it and bounces right back, when the stadium gets going, 30 thousand sounds like 60 thousand. Our last playoff game, the team from Illnois had 3 straight motion pent in the 4th because they could not hear the snap count, whats amazing about that is we only had 13,000 there for the game. GS might get loud, but I cant imagine it gets close to App when we really get it going.

I was in the third row on my trip to Paulson. I've been on the field at KBS and in the stands at KBS. Paulson doesn't come close to KBS in noise level. It's not even close.

Same thing happened to UTC last year when the ref told our band to stop playing.

Been to KBS 3 times, been on the field at Paulson once during the game...

I can see your argument. KBS is loud and you can hear it from a good bit away. Very raucous stadium and great crowd...

...however...

It is truly louder on the field that in the stands. No lie about the 110+ DB plus for Chatty. The refs warned that the band was playing too far into the pre-snap. The announcement went over the in-stadium PA and just royally pissed everyone off. About 60 straight seconds of everyone yelling and screaming...and there were only about 17K there for that one.

The slope of the stands doesn't help much, either. You can be on one side of the stadium during a "Georgia - Southern" chant and think you are on the "quiet" side as the echo is much stronger.

Switch sides, same thing.

Should be a lot louder with the FOC and the mid-deck there now, though. How about you show up on 9/25 and judge for yourself?

I'm not trying to talk trash on this... but 110DB is like a power saw at 3'. That doesn't strike me as UNGODLY loud.

Am I just off base?

Humans experience physical pain at 115 dB. If a flat stadium of 25k people is just as loud as holding your ear next to a power saw, I'd say you're doing it right.

Quick search reveals:

Event Decibels
Jet take off 150
Aircraft carrier deck 140
Sunday’s game 136.6 ( last year Seattle-SF game)
Thunderclap 120
Live rock music 110
Jackhammer 100

Then the Chiefs retook the lead at 137db.

Domes and closed stadiums obviously with an advantage.

NMSU's Aggie Memorial Stadium is open air, with no overhangs, and tapered towards the ends.
Fans do get loud ( from time to time ) but they're fighting acoustics the whole way.

Obviously hitting levels that high isn't a normal thing but it can. I have been on the field and not be able to hear someone 10 feet away. But like I said, that doesn't even necessarily happen for every game, but it does for the big ones.

this is an argument that can go on forever, to be fair to GS, we have beaten them the last 2 times we have traveled to their stadium, you cant fault us to thinking have a louder stadium when you can hear a pin drop on their home side as they watch us celebrate another victory on their field, ha, ha, just kidding GS guys!

BTW Moehler, last I checked, y'all are 1-1 in the last 2 trips to Paulson......2010 we won in OT & y'all were ranked #1, & 2012 we were ranked #1 or at least higher & y'all beat us when we didn't have faith in our kicking game & weren't able to score the TD

You can keep perpetuating this lie if you want. The SBC fans will eventually visit Stinkboro and the underwhelming GaSo gameday themselves.

sorry about that, got my numbers confused, understandable, we are 5-1 against you guys since 2008, including 2-1 at Paulson, should have looked closer at all those wins, Ill be more careful next time.

Ok, THAT places it in the perspective I needed to see I was off base.

You probably don't think Paulson's loud because you're always stuck in the middle of the boring, lifeless crApp State section like in the video. 04-cheers

Of course they are going to cheer and rush the field since a home win
against App State has been so rare recently, and even that was last decade.
