Miami basketball OOC announced
I guess we're all posting our school's non-conference games now that they're being announced. Here's Miami's:

11/8: Edinboro (exhibition)
11/16: Southern Utah
11/19: Evansville
11/22: Liberty
11/25: Northwestern (Cancun Challenge)
11/26: Northern Iowa/Virginia Tech (Cancun Challenge)
11/30: Elon
12/3: Dayton
12/6: @ IPFW
12/14: @ Wright State
12/17: Longwood
12/22 or 23: @ Ohio State (Nationwide Arena)
12/29: Capitol
1/3: UMKC

Random thoughts/comments:
1. I love the amount of home games on the schedule. Since Miami has a six-week winter break, I'm glad that most of them were scheduled before the end of finals on the fifth. Last year we only had two home non-conference games while classes were in session.
2. A buy-game at Ohio State is likely to be announced at some point.
3. I'm glad to see us in some kind of preseason tournament.
4. The Evansville, IPFW, Wright State, and UMKC games are return games from last year. Dayton is the first game of a home-and-home (and the timing couldn't be better to play them).
5. We're playing six games in two weeks, beginning with Liberty and ending with IPFW. That'll be a tough stretch, although we have much more depth this season to run our press.
6. This is a very weak schedule, a far cry from the classic Charlie Coles death marches. Our strategy seems to be to win easier matchups and bring our fan base back, though I would've preferred to see us play at a low-level P5 school (i.e. BC, TCU, Washington State) during winter break instead of a low-major like Longwood.
7. I think I might crawl myself into a fetal position if we lose to Capital, another DIII school.

Agreed. As much as I felt bad for them playing the Gauntlet Schedule every year, this is the other end of the spectrum! 03-banghead

If I had to guess, neither UC nor Xavier are willing to come to Miami and drag down their SOS. They would probably agree to have us visit them as a small pay game (or have our 'home' games played at US Bank Arena), but judging by what I've seen from our AD we aren't going to play them with no prospect of a game in Oxford. If we start winning like we were during the Wally years, they would probably be more receptive.

For now, I'm more than happy with an annual series against Dayton (and Wright State to a much lesser degree). We don't need to get beaten up by UC or Xavier, we just need to consistently win and play semi-relevant opponents to get fans excited about Redhawk basketball again.

SOS doesn't have anything to do with, they won't come to Athens either. Cinci and Xavier won't schedule the MAC for the same reason OSU won't schedule Cinci and Xavier.

"Cooper indicated he wanted to play more often at Millett Hall, and Brad Bates, the school’s athletic director before leaving for Boston College in October, supported Cooper and said the annual games with UD, Wright State, Xavier and Cincinnati were in danger."

http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/spor...end/nTQHt/

We won't schedule Cinci because they won't come here and risk a loss. Until just recently we played Xavier home and home always but last trip to Millett they lost and our RPI has been terrible so they cancelled the home and home and we won't play them just at Xavier. We have a tendency of beating Dayton at home but so far they want to keep playing us home and home. Wright State isn't going anywhere.

I understand the economics and political reality of today's basketball scheduling, but I hate to see us not play XU every year....sure hope we keep Dayton as well in future years.

I concur, although Dayton is just as good (if not better) of a team to play at this time. UD is a big name and I think most of the dormant Miami basketball fans we're trying to attract (mainly students) won't notice the difference between Xavier and Dayton. They're both private schools in Ohio with good basketball programs, the fans that really long for the games against XU are devoted enough (and so few in number) that it won't matter very much imo.
