Bud Foster has been there since 1987, as long as Beamer has been there. If I was an AD, a new AD at the school I would see that as more of a detriment than an asset.

Foster's loyalties aren't with Beamer or VT, but to himself. He has always seen himself the Beamer successor.

Here is Foster's coaching history:

1981-82 Murray State (GA)
1983-86 Murray State (LB/Safties)
1987-94 Virginia Tech (LB/Safties)
1995- Virgina Tech (DC)

The guy should have branched out and accepted one of many HC positions that he had inquiries about. I know Marshall wanted to hire him 1996 and 2005. Instead he has limited himself of holding only 3 jobs in football. And now at 55 may have held himself back and became the ultimate career asst. coach.

I think the common understanding is that Foster is the HCIW, but at this point, do they even want him as the HC? He's been there for 20 years, you have to consider that he has some role in the lack of them getting over the hump, which they can never seem to do. If Beamer goes, you'd almost rather see them clean shop and bring in someone young and exciting.

There is a brand new AD at VA Tech (Jan 2014). My guess is he has no loyalties to Beamer or Foster.
