Trojan football to introduce beer sales
After a successful trial run, Troy University will continue beer sales at sporting events.
Athletic Director John Hartwell said the university is in negotiations with beer companies to offer beer at this year’s home football games.

Congrats! Now you can have a beer after you enter the stadium.

Curious to see how it works out.
Crowds being too sober never seemed to be a big problem.
Still, with average college attendance declining, you need every draw you can get.
And I assume there's a pretty good markup on stadium sales.
On the other hand, I assume there are more fights and fewer families.
You could have drunk sections and sober sections and they could do cheers to one another across the stadium.

Looks like the cop is holding his hand up to stop her and she slaps the high five on him.
She's got a lotta 'spirit' but not a lotta sense.

It was 4 bucks at the baseball games this past year I believe.

Or, studies have shown that selling beer inside the stadium leads to less binge drinking outside the stadium. They also show that fewer arrests are made when beer is sold at games and with the increased security that will be at the games, a better & safer environment.
But hey, when you can assume something without bothering to look it up, that's easier.

always love it when people talk about selling alcohol that they assume fights and other disturbing the peace will occur at a much higher rate. Maybe they will see an increase in fights, but maybe it will keep people from becoming sooo plastered before hand they aren't that bad in the stadium.
Let us know how it works. Been to a couple college games that serve beer and had no issues.

You can see him shaking his head as she starts to walk up to him. I agree, he was trying to stop her, and she was too drunk to realize it.

USA, UL and other schools have been selling beer at sporting events for years and I've never seen a problem. I'm sure there has been some incidents but they're few and far between. You're more likely to see problems in the tailgating areas.

No one is going to get drunk inside the stadium. Beer sales won't keep families away. There are drunk people at every sporting event whether you sale beer or not. Any incident inside the stadium will now be blamed on the beer by those that are against it.
Beer at the baseball games were $5 a piece. They had Bud Light, Rolling Rock, Stella, Ultra, and all the Rita's.

Troy saw a profit of $8,000 because of beer at baseball games... I expect a much higher number for football. It's a smart move.

Its amazing to me that those programs that need help in boosting attendance would not even try it. And every study I've read has concluded that a high percentage of college students binge drink today, so how does it contribute when they are already drunk entering the stadium?

Most people agree with you... Theres just a select few ultra conservative people that want to push their beliefs on others.

I'm conservative, but I'm also a realist. I have two in college right now. At UL baseball games, all people have to wear wrist bands to drink and after the seventh inning, no beer is sold. For football, beer sales is also cut off during the game. It can be policed, but nothing is perfect.

Youre not going to stop them (Student aged people) from drinking. At the Georgia Dome, Levy charges so much for beer that its cheaper for students to drink outside. Not many students set on drinking are going to pay $7.50 to $10 for a Bud or Bud Lite when they can party outside and buy a 12 pack for less than that.

Students have never been the target market in this...just additional revenue for those of legal-drinking age that choose to buy.

Most students aren't going to pay $5 for a beer anyway. They will continue to smuggle other stuff in and binge outside. As rowdy as the Cajuns are I've never seen an issue in three trips down there that could be blamed on beer. The worst fans I've ever witnessed were at a (beerless) MTSU game.

RE: Trojan football to introduce beer sales
Lot of our fans drink before games, but eat well before games also.
If some school had a major contingent opposed to beer sales they could
always make one side of the stadium beer sales and one side no beer sales.
Really shouldn't be a problem. People should be adult enough to not overdue
it or they have a drinking problem anyway.
