Hummmm...I seem to remember a certain team from Illinois last year who didn't really seem to take a certain team from Ohio too seriously last year.
Now who was that team again?
But really dude, how does the level of concern held by a fan base before a game translate into the score of the game, or the level in which their team plays in the game?

Are you really dumb enough to imply NIU wasn't taking BG seriously?

Was huskie1stdown dumb enough to imply that UT wasn't taking NIU seriously?
But read my last paragraph again. I was talking about your fanbase, who by and large predicted a huskie blowout last year in the MACC. Oops.

I'd like you to prove who said that NIU would blow out BGSU? All NIU fans and the majority of the media was predicting NIU to win and even by a decent margin, but NOBODY said that NIU would win in blowout style. BGSU was the better team on the field and there was some questionable play calls by Carey, but that's no excuse. BGSU was the better team on the field that day but I do not believe there was any gap talent wise.

Maybe 'by and large' was a stretch, but way more than a few of your fans were predicting a double-digit win...which in the MACC counts as a blow-out in my book! http://csnbbs.com/thread-664256.html

Lol I only see a couple posts predicting anything that could be considered a blowout. Most people predicted us to win by 3-11 points which was completely reasonable going into that game.

Did you read the WHOLE thread? And 11 points, while not a blow-out, its still two scores. Here's all the 11+ spreads from that thread:
I agree with RWT...the NIU fanbase was...by and large...pretty cocky going into the MACC. I couldn't go to the game because I was sick with the flu, but I had a blast watching the game with my daughter and I did enjoy reading the game thread on the NIU board. IIRC..one poster told another to punch himself in the junk. :)

Actually yeah..you have a pretty vocal and active fanbase which normally, one of that size, will include at least one gloom-and-doomer who will pick the opponent.
But no, it doesn't REALLY surprise me...especially from a school who's always thought it was too good for the MAC.

He never said that. NIU views Toledo as their rival. They have since Novak was there. Ask anybody involved with NIU and they'll say Toledo is the #1 rival, not Ball State.
Toledo has spent the better part of the last decade trying to say NIU isn't their rivals.
Nobody is saying Toledo doesn't take NIU seriously, just that NIU might have a little extra motivation that Toledo has yet to be able to match.

NIU hadn't lost a game to a MAC school since the first weekend in October of 2011 before that game. Bowling Green lost to a team (Toledo) who NIU pretty well dominated on the road. Was there any real logic to pick BG to win that game?

I'm just curious why you say a school that has always thought it was too good for the MAC? Are you basing that on their move to independents or what?
Some fans may think so, but to call an institution arrogant (which seems like you are doing) when you don't know what they were seeing in a situation is pretty off base. To my knowledge they were doing what they thought was best to elevate the university, I don't think what you're saying is true. I could be wrong, but you should probably back up what youre saying when you say something like that.
It's different if you're calling out a fan for thinking that, but a whole university is another accusation. At least they had the balls to elevate themselves even though it ultimately didn't pan out.

Toledo's FANS don't think NIU is their rival, it doesn't mean the team doesn't take them seriously. I GUARANTEE they take NIU seriously! You don't think a team that has lost 2,3,4 in a row to a team isn't taking them seriously!!??? Do you think BG isn't taking Toledo seriously in their streak???
Late in the past few seasons our defense hasn't been able to stand up to the best QB in the MAC. Whether it Harnish or Lynch.... BGsux has been less dynamic and easier to defend, therefor giving our offense more opportunities to score. We've also played them earlier in the season when our defenses have played better. Idk if it's the cold or injuries, but Toledo hasn't handled November well since I can remember.
Literally has nothing to do with who UT is taking seriously. Week games in general haven't been pleasant to Toledo. Akron and BSU are examples of that in the past few seasons.
