Have to assume there was a big recruiting event this weekend. Ours is a clambake next weekend.

ESPN Recruiting Page

Rivals is updated to the total of 17 commits for stAte. Definitely need depth on both lines.

Two of the guys who committed this weekend are OL, Bussey and Castelberry.

247 doesn't have the 5 guys added yet, but has stAte's 2015 class ranked 64th. http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Footbal...amRankings

how many spots do you guys have for this class? starting to think yall have to put some of these commitments on stand by soon.

At one point, we had 16 available spots, but we've had Five transfer out in the past couple months as coaches have started trying to find schools for the players who didn't fit in. Throw in Bryce Giddens retiring from football for medical reasons, and you've got another free scholarship

That should give us 22 or 23 spots at least by the time signing day comes around. You are right though, we'll have to put people on standby if things keep up. I imagine a couple of these guys might get P5 offers if they have a good senior season, so obviously keeping all 17 would be difficult.

I believe we have 25 spots for this class, and we received 2 commitments this weekend to push us to 13 total. so im thinking we are getting into that standby number real soon. if we have the kind of season we want/expect to have, it would be wise to have 7-8 spots open. especially with all the high school talent in Louisiana.

Its interesting that UL passed on Brown and Louis at their linemen camp. Hahhville is loaded this year. Louis is a big kid, but he didn't run that well at the Cajuns camp from what I've heard. If he runs better, he is a good get for ASU.

You have a quality DT committed, not sure what your needs are at LB. Sometimes it comes down to need, as to whether or not you offer.

ASU did beat out Tech and Tulane, and others (and there will probably be more, because P5's like them too) for these two, so they have some upside.

IMO the success of UL ( and ULM) is opening doors for other SBC teams in Louisiana. Kids think they play good football in the SBC, probably as a result of the success they have had. ASU has never had a lot of players from that state, so hopefully that will change.

From a stAte perspective, and really from a Cajun perspective too, it helps each school to have the other always ready to battle for the top spot. Keeps either team from letting up and just assuming they are going to steamroll everyone.

Needs and systems come into play. I like Louis, think he could be a steal.

Got another commitment from DE TJ Harris out of Tulsa. That's 6 on the weekend and 18 total now.

We stole one from La Tech, so that one would have automatically made it a good weekend, but 5 is incredible.

Great job by our coaches so far.

That kid you stole from Tech decommited a couple of months ago. I don't know the full story, but he tweeted something to indicate he was being lied to. His best friend was also committed to Tech and decommitted that same day. If you find out the story, let me know.

His friend is leaning Ragin' Cajuns if you are talking about the OLB.

That's him. Not sure what happened with those 2. It sounds like maybe they were told we were not going to recruit anymore kids at their position and we did. I'm just speculating though. No idea what happened with them. I guess "commit" just doesn't mean much this early.

It helps to have the prospects commit but it really means nothing until signing day

That wont last long here. We're famous for turning players into model citizens.

You have the same kind of players as the rest of us. They all come from different backgrounds.

Yes, nothing is official until signing day but the guys you land early tend to be the ones you really want so if you can hold them then that bodes well. It usually means you are going to hold them unless a successful P5 comes along and offers.

True, but what's notable is that we've lost something like Five Total commitments in the last three years combined despite coaching changes, if Anderson stays past this year, I like our chances at holding onto these.

Not sure what happened with Tech, but from what I've heard about Brown is he's a good kid. From what CajunT has said, he is an effort kid, plays hard every snap, has good quickness off the ball but lacks major college size at 5'11,260. Actual size at the UL camp from what I was told.

Q. Lee is 5'10" and Ryan Carrethers was the best DL in the conference last year at 5'11". Historically, those guys that are just a tad short can be the best. They often come with a chip on their shoulder to boot.

If he is used the right way, he will be fine. I hate when people label kids because a tweet. As I said, and I take CajunT's word because he actually attends football camps, Brown is a good kid.
