Basically my set-up. I have ATT Uverse with locals only TV for my internet and Direct TV. You can use the WatchESPN app just select ESPN3 under the channel heading because you don't get ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN News/ESPN Desportes

Works great on Apple TV and rarely have issues unless 1.5 million people are trying to watch the same stream as happened with the US games in the World Cup.

Rumor is that if Direct does a deal with SEC Network that it will probably include more WatchESPN access for Direct customers.

The only thing I don't like about it on the Roke (etc.) is that you cannot go back and watch old replays on espn3 you can only access the live/upcoming stuff.

It wont take long I don't think before they start blocking simultaneous logins like computer games have been doing for 15 years now, each login will have an ID-key and unless you have a special license you'll only be able to login on one device at a time. They may offer packages where you can log in multiple times through the same modem or purchase a netflix account that allows 3 simultaneous logins from different ISP's. That's going to be the only way around it, if they see that its financially appropriate.

EDIT: I think netflix's early days it was set-up that way. If your account was logged in somewhere else it would notify you that couldn't continue until you'd logged out from that account. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to that.

That's watch ESPN. ESPN3 is an entirely different animal. It goes by your internet provider and the list is so large its hard to find people without access to it now. Here is the multi page long provider list, including every University in the US. http://espn.go.com/watchespn/affList

Watch ESPN provides live coverage of the games on an ESPN cable Network. Allowing users, for example, to be able to potentially watch a major ESPN game online if they aren't near a TV. It costs a lot more, and has fewer interested providers.

DirectV is the largest provider of "cable" TV and you will not get espn3 if you have Directv or Dish if you have TW internet

I had to use my son's remote link to watch it..he had cable

That's not true of Dish they picked up ESPN3 when then picked up the SEC Network: http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/..._netw.html

I am about to cancel my DirecTV and sign up for a new package that TWC offers that is just internet + 20 local stations + HBO.

In exchange for my parents' cable password, I'm giving them my HBO GO password so they can watch HBO on their Roku. My sister gives them Netflix.

My monthly cost for TV + Internet will go from $150 to $80.

This is something cable companies are going to have to adjust to in the future because I don't really know many young people that are cable subscribers. The problem is only going to get worse in the future.

In the late 90's young people didn't pay for music either, Napster. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Possibly, but mobile devices have changed things considerably. Now it is difficult to say that someone is definitely sharing their account because if they're using a different IP address they could simply be using a mobile phone or tablet somewhere else. Even if you have a Roku/AppleTV/FireTV/Chromecast, you can easily take those with you.

WatchESPN used to only allow one simultaneous login at a time, but that has since changed. With the rise of WatchESPN on game consoles, mobile devices, and Roku/AppleTV/etc, they changed this because multiple people that live in the same household may want to use the account at the same time to watch different things.

HBO's CEO has openly said he knows people share login info and he doesn't care because those people will eventually become standalone users. I think he's right. People used to say that after Napster that people would never pay for music, yet iTunes changed that.

It was. I had a heck of a time trying to stream Netflix from my PS3 in the early days because I'd be logged in on my home computer. I'd have to remember to log out on my computer in order for the PS3 to work...which became a hassle to remember, so I ended up sticking to using the computer.

They key is for Direct customers to tie their internet through a phone company. I had Direct for a couple years before going back to cable (I got tired of dealing with the signal going out every freaking storm) whenever I did, I tied my internet through AT&T to keep the ESPN3 access.

Many Cable companies will only offer ESPN3 to those who actually subscribe to the ESPN channel.

Eventually ESPN is going to convince most providers to pay for the coverage because they'll provide enough content that people start complaining when they cant access any of it.

Especially if the government can continue to shut down the bootleg stream places on the internet that College Football fans know so well.

Not in any way trying to start a debate between conference, but CUSA had some good news in regards to coverage today too.

Personally, I'd prefer a model like the SBC's where I could watch the games on WatchESPN, but coverage on CW and MyTV networks is good too.

The last two days have been good for G5 coverage. I'll definitely be catching some SBC games, especially UL and App State games.

My 82 year old dad is all about ESPN3 on Roku.

Well your 82-year old dad is not really the target audience.

I have a Roku, but cannot watch ESPN 3 unless I am with Comcast. I have DirecTV. Really wish I could pay a subscription fee on the Roku to get access to ESPN 3. I think ESPN is missing out on opportunity like that, but they are probably being payed by Comcast and other to only limit the distribution capabilities of ESPN 3/Watch ESPN.

If you do not have one of the providers, if you have a single friend with one of the providers you can use their account... I use my brothers.

Same here. Thank God for sports bars!

Right now the best way for me to view ESPN 3/Watch ESPN Games is through some European (.eu) websites that illegally stream world sports events. Yes its illegal what they are doing, but to view ones team you have got to do what you have got to do. Besides its free to view.

SBC had ESPN Regional several years back before ESPN 3 took off. OTA is nice to have, but most providers offer local channels now... what's the appeal, at this point?
