My 82 year old dad is all about ESPN3 on Roku.

Well your 82-year old dad is not really the target audience.

But the more 82 year olds become receptive and embrace the technology and broadcast format, the more legitimate it becomes.

Right now there is still a bit of a stigma to ESPN3, but it's slowly changing.

Personally, I'd prefer a model like the SBC's where I could watch the games on WatchESPN, but coverage on CW and MyTV networks is good too.

The last two days have been good for G5 coverage. I'll definitely be catching some SBC games, especially UL and App State games.

Yeah, I'm glad we stuck with ESPN outside of the 2nd option. Jonesboro doesn't offer a CW Network up here. Would have been interesting trying to access the games. Its a big city station

Personally I have DirecTV so I'm S.O.L.

That's watch ESPN. ESPN3 is an entirely different animal. It goes by your internet provider and the list is so large its hard to find people without access to it now. Here is the multi page long provider list, including every University in the US. http://espn.go.com/watchespn/affList

Watch ESPN provides live coverage of the games on an ESPN cable Network. Allowing users, for example, to be able to potentially watch a major ESPN game online if they aren't near a TV. It costs a lot more, and has fewer interested providers.

DirectV is the largest provider of "cable" TV and you will not get espn3 if you have Directv or Dish if you have TW internet

I had to use my son's remote link to watch it..he had cable

I was able to watch ESPN 3 somehow last season and I have Direct TV and Time Warner for internet...When I logged in I still have Insight Logo, so maybe I got lucky or since I remained signed in....Whatever I did it worked all season for me...

I have DirecTV as well. Last season I spent $30 on an XBox subscription and had a great experience watching games via ESPN3.

I have a Roku, but cannot watch ESPN 3 unless I am with Comcast. I have DirecTV. Really wish I could pay a subscription fee on the Roku to get access to ESPN 3. I think ESPN is missing out on opportunity like that, but they are probably being payed by Comcast and other to only limit the distribution capabilities of ESPN 3/Watch ESPN.

You can get your TV and internet from two different providers
I am With Century Link so I cant get it that way either.

RE: ESPN3 expands SBC coverage
I have DirecTV and Cox for internet. While DTV isnt listed on the WatchESPN app login, Cox is. Even though the app says to put your TV login info in, I put my internet login instead since I still have a Cox account. That lets me login and use the "ESPN3" broadcasts. I wont have access to watch ESPN or ESPN2, etc on the app, but I can get all the internet only broadcasts like that.

I wonder how many have not tried logging in just because it says to put your TV login info in. I'd suggest trying to put your internet login info and seeing if you can watch the ESPN3 programming.

It wont take long I don't think before they start blocking simultaneous logins like computer games have been doing for 15 years now, each login will have an ID-key and unless you have a special license you'll only be able to login on one device at a time. They may offer packages where you can log in multiple times through the same modem or purchase a netflix account that allows 3 simultaneous logins from different ISP's. That's going to be the only way around it, if they see that its financially appropriate.

EDIT: I think netflix's early days it was set-up that way. If your account was logged in somewhere else it would notify you that couldn't continue until you'd logged out from that account. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to that.

Netflix actually has adopted a limit because they want Mom and Dad to be able to watch House of Cards, while Junior watches Spongebob, and Sally watches Dora.

If you exceed their maximum simultaneous logins they'll move you to a higher plan.

Possibly, but mobile devices have changed things considerably. Now it is difficult to say that someone is definitely sharing their account because if they're using a different IP address they could simply be using a mobile phone or tablet somewhere else. Even if you have a Roku/AppleTV/FireTV/Chromecast, you can easily take those with you.

WatchESPN used to only allow one simultaneous login at a time, but that has since changed. With the rise of WatchESPN on game consoles, mobile devices, and Roku/AppleTV/etc, they changed this because multiple people that live in the same household may want to use the account at the same time to watch different things.

HBO's CEO has openly said he knows people share login info and he doesn't care because those people will eventually become standalone users. I think he's right. People used to say that after Napster that people would never pay for music, yet iTunes changed that.

And I've been known to watch a game on my iPad while my wife and daughter watch some show that Heidi Klum has and is not shown on screen nearly enough.

They key is for Direct customers to tie their internet through a phone company. I had Direct for a couple years before going back to cable (I got tired of dealing with the signal going out every freaking storm) whenever I did, I tied my internet through AT&T to keep the ESPN3 access.

Many Cable companies will only offer ESPN3 to those who actually subscribe to the ESPN channel.

ATT had the same thought :)

In a perfect world, we'd have some content on an OTA network like they are getting with the content also on ESPN3 subject to blackout in markets where it is available on TV and then everything not on the OTA or a regular ESPN on ESPN3 as well.

True but if he can handle it then I bet a 30 year old we want to sell tickets to or a 17 year old we want to recruit can handle it.

I need a fast internet connect if it doesn't pop it could cost me money...

if it ever became a real problem for me I would just buy the cheapest TW cable package along with their internet.
