Three SBC JUCO Transfers To Watch For
Here are highlights from the NJCAA Title Game. The SBC got some big time steals with these three guys from EMCC.

Georgia Southern - RB Lakenderic Thomas
Louisiana - WR Antoine Adkins
Troy - QB Dontreal Pruitt

I was most impressed with Thomas. He reminds me of the type of running backs Alabama employs; no real blazing speed, but power and strength to bowl over would be defenders. Thomas had 1,334 yards and 18 TDs last season. 111 yards per game. Very impressed.

Adkins looks to be that go to receiver who can catch a multitude of throws. Focus while bring the ball in seems to be his strength. He is featured in almost every big throw in the title game. Louisiana also signed CJ Bates from EMCC. He has speed for days and projects at the X and Z positions.

Pruitt for Troy is a dual threat guy. A tad undersized, but he's not playing in the NFL. He's only an inch shorter than Drew Brees. Accuracy (45 TDs), speed, and elusiveness (6 rushing TDs, 1 Sack all season), seem to be his strong suit. The offense ran in this highlight video looks almost identical to what Troy runs. Should he win the job, the transition shouldn't be too difficult.

Unfortunately Thomas has already been kicked off the team. He apparently thought that going to class in the spring semester was merely a suggestion instead of a requirement. He would have been academically ineligible this year anyway.

Thomas must have thought he had enrolled in school at North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

That's incredibly unfortunately. Especially considering what I've heard about how thin you guys have become recently at running back. He looked like a real bulldozer.

What a great movie. Not sure why it's not more well known.

It's my understanding Adkins got flipped to CB. I think I asked about him and was told so by someone in the know about the program.

You are correct on that. Unbelievably unfortunate. We've had to move one of our back-up QB's to RB b/c of all of this. Our returning all-american is having legal troubles and off the team over the winter. Our #1 and #2 coming out of the spring are both ineligible (Thomas & Thornton).

For the first time in a long, long time, RB might be one of our weaknesses this year.

I'm biased, of course, but I think First Team NJCCA All-American DE Jimmie Gipson III of EMCC is worth a mention. The USA signee had 17 sacks and 24 TFL last season, four of those sacks coming in the title game.
He signed in December and quickly claimed a starting spot in the spring. His first step is remarkably quick and he has a nonstop motor.

Thomas wasn't the big loss. Chaz Thorton outshined him in the spring. We have zero depth at RB. Ramsby and Ryan Petersen better be studs or we are looking at 2009 again.

So are both Thomas and Thorton just ineligible this year or are one/both of them permanently off the team?

This off season for GS fans has been going something like this:

02-13-banana 03-cloud9 04-cheers ------> 04-jawdrop03-hissyfit03-nutkick ------> 03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead 03-weeping

Antoine Atkins has been moved to CB and CJ Bates will stay at WR.

We don't have to have a stud RB to be waaaaaaaay better than we were offensively that year. We are light years better on the OL than that year and we can get help from our quarterbacks to generate rushing yards.

Come on, 'skins. That's just a crazy statement.

Govan is getting moved to TE. He is too big to be the primary back in this offense.
Butler is moving to receiver.
McKinnon is in the NFL.
Huggins was kicked off the team.
Banks and Bryant have graduated.
Cherry and Ellison aren't RBs.
