Big discrepancy between the 247 composite score and 247's. Looks like the other services are still higher on him.

this has been discussed over and over again on here. If a kid isn't known, he will be a 2 or 3 star tops. as soon as a p5 school looks, or multiple schools start looking, his rating goes up.

He's got a P5 on there. Apparently his score dropped after his interest in 2 G5 schools increased.

This crap of downgrading is not fair to Georgia State or Texas State, and especially not to the player.
Somehow we need to stop this practice. I am going to email my 247 rep and encourage you all to do the
same. If you can think of some other way to fix this practice let us know on this thread.

Could be, but happens way too often.

I don't particularly like it, but it makes some sense. There's no way all four major recruiting services look at every recruits film and make adequate judgments based on what they see. Especially when it comes to sizing up 300 kids at a single position against one another. And I'm not sure the guys watching film are always qualified to make those kind of evaluations.

So when it comes down to it, if a two star kid is offered by Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Florida State, I have no problem with recruiting services bumping him up to 4-Stars. If a kid is a three star but only has offers from say Youngstown State, Murray State, and Akron, its certainly possible the kid is not as good as advertised. But he may also be a diamond in the rough.

I don't necessarily have a problem downgrading at that point, but the jury is still out about whether the kid deserved a 3-Star in the first place based on what could be hokey college football enthusiasts who happen to work for rivals, scout or 247. I'd say the guys actually at the schools who make the offers are better evaluators of talent than the staff at Rivals, Scout, and 247. I don't have a clue who does it for ESPN. Could be their top analysts who actually played the game, or could be some entry level talent employees payed to watch film. If they were that good, they'd be recruiting coordinators for big time schools.

There is some unfair logic being used but it is at least rational.

I always heard that it had to do with the player's mental state. 'If you have a choice between G5 and P5 you must know of some inferiority we don't which would cause you to second guess the better program.'

Does it really matter? Does it make them any less of a player? Will recruiting class ranking matter once the whistle blows? Think the kid will miss tackled because his "stars" were downgraded?

I hope he comes here we are losing some great LBs after this season and since he is a juco im sure he will want to come in and get some real play time right away.

I am not sold on this cat. I saw some of his twitter stuff and he has character issues that make me think he might be a waste of time. Again I could be wrong by being quick to judge, but he doesn't seem like a Orakpo type to me.

I spoke with Kipp Adams about a similar situation a year ago involving a USA recruit being downgraded from and 87 to an 80. He told me that they periodically review the players that were rated previously by another of the staff and change grades accordingly. I'm sure, subconsciously, the level of offers a kid is getting enters into their thinking at that point, but I do think they are trying to find the true measure of the prospect.

Our former player, OLB Joplo Bartu, who was an UDFA for Atlanta in 2013 (and started 13 of their games last year.) was a 2 star coming out of HS. Look where he is now.

ummm...Atlanta's defense was horrible last year. probably not the best example to use

He was thrown into the fray due to injuries. 2 of the LBs were UDFA's. I think they held their own. I know how bad that D was but Worrilow and Bartu ranked 1 & 3 in total tackles. Not bad for 2 kids that went undrafted and were from FCS schools....that was the point
