Do think it is ironic though that the UMass score board falls during a football
game considering all the other times it could fall. They only have three games
at their campus, since they play three in Gillett Stadium, so that is @ 9 hours
during the year and it actually happens at a game. What are the odds.

The board was rented and only temporary .
The end zone addition has to be finished before a permanent board is installed.

It was a hydraulic failure on the jack, which supported the rented video board.

The plan is to expand the stadium by tearing down the wall and add end zone seating. This would expand seating to 24k and be a nice horse shoe, with the new Performance Center at the other end.

We've had 3 close games including the 42 - 47 lose to defending MAC Champs BSGU. The next 3 games are very winnable, even though the next two are away games.

Adding an interesting link of what we are being pay and what we are paying others as Troy and App State

Additional Details from the ^

Quote:Appalachian State: Essentially, if wither Appalachian State or UMass break the contract "without permission" from the other school, the breaching party will owe $500,000. ... The agreement "may be voided" if either school reclassifies to another division in college football.
...
Troy: Unless there is an act of God - or the NCAA or a conference makes the game impossible to play - the breaching party will owe the other school $1,000,000.

Are those normal amounts for breaching contracts?
Seems rather high in general. Is UMass negotiating high
amounts because their virtual football lives might be in
jeopardy if some team cancelled?

Have not see breaching details before, so don't know. Thought it was interesting for home and home that we are pay 75k to Troy and App State.

Perhaps a template for something an Ark State fan posted. Don't have time now to look for it but it was something like this. We won't take you in the conference, but as a peace offering of sorts agree to schedule some games.

I am glad for us to be playing UMass. Look forward to the games. Can fully understand why you guys are leaving the MAC, and would think most would do the same to protect your basketball program, especially with you being such a basketball oriented school. Imagine Sun Belt administrators are more into finding the right full sports member instead of a temporary football alliance, but would have no problem otherwise except for the potential hit on the rankings, and some with travel.

How soon for the end zone seats and 24k. UMASS needs that stadium improvement asap. It would make them more attractive to other conferences. Understand the growing pains and that money doesn't grow on trees but put some temporary seats up there for the time being and get more of your games on campus. Play the P5 fives at Gillette once or twice a year and get back on campus for game day atmosphere. Good luck. 04-cheers 04-cheers 04-cheers

Sadly guessing 2016. Pretty sure we'll have a practice bubble for all sports in 2015.

Sounds like you are making progress. Would still try to put as many temporary seats in the end zone with the wall (future horse shoe closing end) and try to utilize the McGurke home field on campus stadium as possible until then. With all the independent scheduling sounds like you can't make membership in the Sunbelt work even with a temporary Mac like contract for 2 to 4 years. There are Sunbelt teams with openings for 2016 and 2017 that UMass could contact for home games though. The other G5 conferences also have openings for away games at UMass too for 2016 and 2017. Between all of the G5 conferences I came up with 20 schools that UMass could schedule for home games in 2016 and 2017. I'm sure your AD can do the same and trade off some basketball games in some creative scheduling opportunities too. Good luck going forward. Pulling for UMass to to eventually find a conference home again and remain at the D-1 level. Was hoping the Sunbelt would offer a 2 -4 year Mac like contract while exploring other potential candidates along with UMass for FB only to get to 12 conference members and a Championship Game.

RE: UMass Wasting It's Time With the Sun Belt?
Keep an eye on UMass Sunbelt and Commissioner Benson. This could be the break out week. UMass has been so close scoring 30+ and 40+ points in there close loss's by 1 to 4 points at the buzzer. They could be sitting 4 and 2 right now if their defense holds on at the end of the game with wins over 2 P5 teams. It a good game to break out against an 0 and 5 Kent State team and win out for the season. UMass would make a great add for number 12 and a Championship Game with a MAC like contract until the Sunbelt can convince James Madison to join or reaches out to another up and coming 1AA school. Its a win win for both the Sunbelt and UMass. Heck it might even become a permanent arrangement. 04-jawdrop 04-jawdrop 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 02-13-banana 04-cheers 07-coffee3

Yes, Panite it's nice to see Temple fans support us. But please refrain from posting here. There is a conference realignment board.

UMass fans have been respectful and please follow suit. The Sun Belt should do what's best for the Sun Belt.

I'm happy we have a series going with App State and would love to see a few more. Troy was good 3 years ago and expect they will rebound.

Panite if you are coming up on Spet 19th, send me a PM and would like to meet you during tail gating.
