Interesting stuff, I wanted to share this with the rest of our Sun Belt Members.
"Whether San Marcos is ready or not The Greater San Marcos Partnership in league with Hays County are making moves to turn the fastest growing city in America into a center stage attraction. They have paid $18,000 to air an ad on Time Squares jumbotron through July 15 showcasing the appeal of San Marcos to an estimated 168 million people.. A lot of people think this is a threat to the local culture of a city smack dab in the middle of Austin and San Antonio, but from a Texas State Athletics point of view it might mean more tickets to sale." - http://www.BobcatReport.com

See there you go with all that high fulutin stuff because your city is really nice in a good area and growing.....We at Troy don't have to put up with the city being a distraction to the University and people buying tickets to game venues due to having other things to do....We are so far ahead of you by making Troy a really really dull place.....I think our city fore fathers had that in mind.....Our Slogan would be something like....."Come join us and go to a game while you are here because there really isn't anything else to do".....but the advertising dollars to spice that up would be millions so we will just leave at come to a game you will enjoy yourselves.

I actually was in San Marcos last night. My cousin teaches there. Had dinner at the Root Cellar. Downtown San Marcos is pretty. I didn't remember much of it that last time I was there. I was too busy remembering a defensive collapse on a 4th and forever play
I don't know if everyone in San Marcos wants more growth. I think I'm about ready for a Houston ad campaign telling people. "Sorry we're full. I hear Dallas is nice. Please move there instead."
But transportation infrastructure? I think they need to fix that road from San Marcos to I-10 at Luling. That's a mess.

I had the steak with brussels sprouts and some fingerling potatoes. It was really good. My cousin had the prosciutto risotto, which she said was really good.
Two glasses of wine with dinner was all I could handle for the evening. Besides, my brother wasn't feeling well so we had to get him back to the hotel.

Short answer.. they don't.
The Austin news affiliate (KVUE) was down here asking people about the Times Square Ad and most of the people thought it was a waste of money and didn't want them coming down here.
When the Mainstreet district published a video last month, they showed a hipster grad student riding around on his fixed-gear bike, shooting photos of graffiti, and eating from a food trailer. The message was "we embrace a lot of things, but we don't want you here if you mess with our vibe".
Townies don't want the University getting any bigger because they pretty much hate the school because its filled with too many students, doesn't pay taxes, gobbles up real estate, and is filled with elitist egghead types
The Environmentalists don't want anyone else coming down here because the Aquifer is already over taxed by Austin and San Antonio. They don't want any more development west of the city because messes up the recharge zone and destroys the natural habitats of endangered species.
