If Black and Blue Bowl is a challenge as the official name, call it the Bruiser Bowl and hand back and forth a paddle black on one side and blue on the other ... in due course the official name won't matter.

A couple years ago after years of not having a trophy for the game ECU and NC State starting playing for the pork barrel. No one really seems to care much about the trophy though because it has no history which is what makes trophy games cool. I doubt anyone at App or GSU would really care about the trophy either.

This annual showdown already has a name, it's called "The Biggest Game Of The Year" by most fans of GS and App.

Big difference, both parties have to consider the other a rival, at least at first. NCSU does not consider ECU an equal and therefore not a true rival.
App and GSU hate yet respect each other's program, it would matter.

Name for Georgia Southern-App. State game?

I'm not getting into that debate because honestly, it's purely each person's opinion and there is no way to settle a debate as such. However, I would stay away from anything that would put their names or likenesses on this game simply to avoid any negative connotations between the 2 schools from a "coaching legend" perspective.
I like the idea of a giant teachers paddle or similar item that goes between the 2 schools. Hell, couldn't we just keep the SoCon trophy and continue to exchange it back and forth as we've done previously? Bring Marshall into the mix and you could have a 3 way battle similar to the Commander and Chief's Trophy. Between 1986 and 2012, Marshall, GSU, and App State have accounted for at least a share of the title in all season except 4. (that's 23 of 27 years)
With all due respect, those people are foolish. But like you said, it's all opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.
No offense but your wife is a whore.
B-but... but... I said "no offense," right?

RE: Name for Georgia Southern-App. State game?
I like the Black and Blue bowl, have said that on here before. No reason that we as fans can't spread that through social media (and regular social contact) to see if it catches on and spreads. As far as a trophy/memento to be given to the winner, it almost needs to happen organically or it will just be kind of lame. For instance, I like the teacher's paddle idea, it references the educational heritage of both schools, would be easy to engrave with the score and winner each year, double meaning about "giving a whoopin," etc. But to have a brand new item such as this, and then "distress" it to make it look older, and kind of create the story would just be crappy to me. If it happened naturally, like a retired schoolteacher from one of our schools (even better if it was a husband and wife, one from each school, but that probably doesn't even exist) had their ACTUAL paddle from back in the day, that was aged and distressed naturally, and gave it to the coach of the winning team after a game as a token, then that coach has the idea to hand it off to the other team if they lose the following year, and thus the tradition begins. If a scenario like that played out, I would see it as a neat thing and worthy of continuing. If it is just created as a marketing/branding thing, then it seems hollow. Just my .02.
edit: maybe there is an App alum who spent their teaching career in this area or vice versa...then they could take the place of my hypothetical married couple :)

How about something relating to the border

Probably not a good idea considering that nice sized chunk of real estate named South Carolina sits between us.
You guys and the Eagles could have the backyard brawl.
Since you mentioned South Carolina:
The "Hiking on the Appalachian Trail" bowl aka the Mark Sanford Trophy

I had been figuring that App State -vs- Louisiana would be the

Not every rivalry needs a name for the game, and if it does.... let it come organically.
