How about nothing? Who knows what new rivalries will await both the Eagles and the Mountaineers? It seems each decade is a different rival. for the 80s it was Furman, 90s it was Marshall, Furman again early 00s and now App St.

How about something relating to the border

Probably not a good idea considering that nice sized chunk of real estate named South Carolina sits between us.

You guys and the Eagles could have the backyard brawl.

Um...pretty sure NC and GA still boder each other...

they may still have a very small border, but I'm pretty sure a vast majority of people don't consider GA and NC neighboring states.

1. Black and Blue Bowl is taken by Southern Miss and Memphis.

2. I like the teacher's paddle idea but that would probably never pass the PC test as someone mentioned.

3. So what if Erk Russell and Jerry Moore aren't equal as coaches or in accomplishments?

We don't care, we know it has been used before. Believe someone from SoMiss said they were not playing or playing often in the future.
Hate to use the name of a living coach. If we were so concerned about PC crowd App would not have made that ugly Victory Yosef a secondary symbol.

Memphis football rivalry - I'm confused.

How about the Creek Water Battle. Kraut Creek vs. Eagle Creek. The trophy could be a moon shine jug with two compartments with each creeks' water inside.

Really? That's kind of depressing if so. I would like to think people know what states border their own... I can see if someone in Wyoming didn't know NC and Georgia share a border, but if you live in one of those two state you should know that.

Let me rephrase that. I'm sure most people know they share borders, but in terms of considering them a big enough border to have the rivalry include them being bordering states it doesn't make sense. If app was in SC, sure. When you think of Ga's main neighboring states, I'm sure most people's first reaction isn't NC.

I like that but try this twist. The LOSER keeps the trophy, filled with the water from the winner's creek.

Though Appalachian State may well consider themselves the representatives of that border area ... especially in FB, since the Bulldogs don't play FB.

But on the other hand, Georgia Southern is closer to other borders of the state. Its more App. State and Georgia State across those mountains.

And, after all, those mountains seem like they could be why Georgia and North Carolina border at all ~ that's the one area where the terrain protects North Carolina from Georgia well enough that they don't require the services of South Carolina or Tennessee as buffer states.

First - I'm sure why Panama has to stick his nose in a thread about 2 superior programs to GA State.

Second - I did not provide my opinion of Moore vs Erk. I simply stated that there are some who would not consider them to be of the same level. Allow me to expand by including on a "figurehead" level. Now, that may simply be because many do not know as much about Moore as they do Erk. It may simply be hype. Who knows? However, I did not say anything to the effect that Moore was a crap coach nor did I give a personal opinion that he should not be considered the same level as Erk... or Saban, Lombardi, John Wayne, or anyone else for that matter. I will give my opinion that he is not on the same level as Jesus. Stick that in the PC pipe and smoke it.

Third - Neither Statesboro or Boone are border cities, and the closes state borders to each of them is seperated by SC. So that idea is just plain silly.

Just for the record, I am 99% sure I was the first one to suggest the Black and Blue Bowl on this board. It may have been used by others beforehand, but I had no clue COGS

No one from App or Southern care about Southern Miss or Memphis, so I wouldn't imagine the fans would have a problem with it.

Since we both used to be teacher's colleges, a giant wooden paddle would be a GREAT trophy! Black on one side and blue on the other. Put a hole in the paddle each year the game is played....or some sort of dent on the side of the victor.

I would like to point out that Erk's teams never scored a point on App State.

As far as a name to the game, when it's in Boone it's Black Saturday.

Hypothetically, if you have Southern, UL, and StAte in Boone next year do you really think Southern would be Black Saturday?

NC borders Georgia for about 50 miles in the extreme southwestern corner of NC. It's some of the most rugged terrain in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Of course that's over in Western Carolina territory and no self respecting App Fan would risk being seen over there. One thing is for sure, that part of the border is nowhere close to App and Ga Southern.
