Name for Georgia Southern-App. State game?
This has been discussed some on the GSU board, but I was wondering if App. State folks had any opinion about having a name and trophy for our game every year?

One idea that has been thrown around is to have a trophy named for Erk Russell and Jerry Moore (i.e. "Battle for the Russell-Moore Trophy"). I know there might be some App folks who might object to having Moore's name on the trophy but I don't think you can't really question what he did in elevating App's football program.

A fair amount of folks already refer to this game as "The Black and Blue Bowl". I'm not sure about a trophy. We are/were both teacher's colleges, so we could go in that direction if we have to have a trophy.

The BBB sounds good. Name of the trophy is fine with me,
but what kind of trophy. Feel it should be something that could
go into a trophy case for a year. We used an old moonshine
jug with our App vs Western Carolina series. Personally
would like to see every App State -vs- GaSo score on the
trophy.

Pretty sure we've discussed this quite a few times on this board before. I do like the Black & Blue bowl though even though it's used by a few other games across the nation.

EDIT: I'm actually confusing this with the Georgia Southern vs Georgia State game name thread.

Blue and Gold bowl might work. Also
a double sided bust with Jerry and Erk on it might a
a good trophy.

Somebody should put in on the next 'ask TK'

Is there/can there be some discussion with App's admin on designating some kind of special memento/trophy and or official moniker that the game can be known as going forward?

With all due respect to Coach Moore, there are many who would argue he and Coach Russell were not on the same level. I'm not getting into that debate because honestly, it's purely each person's opinion and there is no way to settle a debate as such. However, I would stay away from anything that would put their names or likenesses on this game simply to avoid any negative connotations between the 2 schools from a "coaching legend" perspective.

I like the idea of a giant teachers paddle or similar item that goes between the 2 schools. Hell, couldn't we just keep the SoCon trophy and continue to exchange it back and forth as we've done previously? Bring Marshall into the mix and you could have a 3 way battle similar to the Commander and Chief's Trophy. Between 1986 and 2012, Marshall, GSU, and App State have accounted for at least a share of the title in all season except 4. (that's 23 of 27 years)

Could always call the trophy something like the Butt Whipping Paddle award.

215–87, 18 playoff appearances and three National Titles. What a crap coach.

That is what he said. Obviously your reading comprehension sucks. Some people think Lebron isn't on the same level as Jordan. Doesn't mean LBJ sucks.

With all due respect, those people are foolish. But like you said, it's all opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

I'm not digging the idea of a trophy with the likeness of, or named for coaches on it. Heck, might as well call it the redneck or hick bowl since that's what each fan base thinks of the other! :>) The paddle idea is a pretty neat angle on tying our history of being education schools and also the symbolism of giving the other team a butt whipping. Wonder what the pushback would be from the PC crowd?

Probably not a good idea considering that nice sized chunk of real estate named South Carolina sits between us.

You guys and the Eagles could have the backyard brawl.
