Yes! There's no need for the stories to be told second hand....anyone can video tape it.
True, but to have it archived and indexed into the National Historical whatever would be pretty neat, give access to anyone, and be a permanent lasting account that we all count be proud of. Some of the ones I saw a few years ago were nothing but where they traveled, and some didn't even really see action, but they wanted all the stories.

Don't misunderstand me. I wholeheartedly agree with you. But while you're waiting on whoever to visit....start taping right now. Don't put it off.

Also App....like you said, a lot of good stories come from those that never saw action. On my Dads honor flight last year, a army airplane mechanic had me rolling! He never saw action outside of the hangar.....that's when another mechanic accidentally hit the trigger on one of the fighters guns and sprayed a line of fire just a few feet from him.

One of the better stories was another of my dads friends from Jonesboro. He carried a nasty scar on his jaw/neck from action. He was actually attempting to take a German prisoner, when the German shot him. They rushed a medic to him, and they were all puzzled by the wound. They only found an exit wound.....no entry wound. Turns out, he was yelling at the German to surrender when the guy turned and fired. The bullet went through his open mouth, and out the back of the mouth under the ear. :) It was definitely not his time to go. He also had a limp from a mortar going off near him, and couldn't hear very well at all. He was a great person and fun to listen to.

My maternal grandfather was drafted Into the Army and reported for duty on June 6, 1944. He took a mortar hit resulting in shrapnel in the leg and internal bleeding in Italy's Po Valley. He only shared his story once, with his four grandson's, and I hung on to every word.
My paternal grandfather was in the Army and stationed in India. He was a barber.
Apparently he and his buds got drunk and stole a cow for dinner. They nearly started a whole new war zone.
Two very different experiences but God Bless all who served.
