Gale force Straight Line Winds blew through town this afternoon. Sustained winds of 80-90MPH. Lots of property damage, and a large portion of the city is without power tonight.

Only Two deaths thankfully. One in a community nearby, and the 2nd was actually the Police Officer who guards our head football coach on game days. He'll be missed, was a great guy

The town of bono was certainly hit hardest from what I've seen. As a video guy I immediately went to help and get footage and I got a lot of footage of some of the damage before the evacuated us because of a natural gas leak caused by a tree uprooting.

ASU had a mess on its hands today. There was a major cheerleading camp the Athletic Department was hosting this week. They got a lot of calls from frightened parents for most of the afternoon.

Looks like they'll have to relocate some residence Halls for a little while to repair roof damage.

Actually Robert Speer guards the coach but Mr. Tom was a long-time fixture around the department.

The guy killed in Black Rock had pulled off the road in the rain and a tree fell on his car. Tom Sanford was killed when a tree hit his house.

A train derailed south of Jonesboro because the cars were blown off the tracks.

The pic of the four wheeler blown into a house was amazing.

RE: Arkansas State closed Friday due to storm damage
My kids live in a gated apartment complex and my son has been griping that the gate has been broken and left open the past two months. Yesterday he saw people at other gated complexes trying to get home with no power to open the gates and he isn't so upset. They were only out of power for about an hour so they are really happy.

During the outage I said, "Your stove is electric isn't it?"
"Uh..... hummm..... I think it might be"
So I've determined they don't cook very often.

Daughter is happy about school being closed today. She had an algebra test scheduled today, instead they get an early start to get on the road to go to a friend's wedding.

My power just came back on. It was out for about 23 hours. That's nothing compared to the 11 days without power during the 2009 ice storm.

After enduring that 11 days, I believe if anything ever happened to the national power grid which caused a two week outage, our country would descend into uncontrollable chaos.

It's a very thin thread which holds modern civilization together.

Yeah, mine came on a little while ago after about 18 hours without power. Its amazing, we kept power on during the last ice storm because utility crews in Jonesboro were prepared and cut down a lot of loose limbs near power lines. We were completely unprepared for this, and saw what happens.

You got that right!
In 2010, Nashville was hit with that flood that was pretty widespread. The first thing that went down (or clogged) were the cell towers.
As soon as people couldn't communicate, they panicked.

Try hurricanes on the East Coast.

Hurricane Irene in 2011 left me w/o power for 17 days. Many were out longer.

One of our Weather guys called Yesterday's storm the closest we'll come to a hurricane in Jonesboro.
