NMSU Game Day Theme's/Events for SBC Games:
Ga. Southern: Tough Enough To Wear Pink
TXST: Military Appreciation
ULL: Homecoming
ULM: Undecided (most likely Senior Day/ Las Cruces Appreciation Day.)

You voluntarily scheduled the one SBC Home game you are probably sure to lose for homecoming?

OOOKAY.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
Looking forward to:
GaSo - rival & 1st Sun Belt Conference FB game
Louisiana & stAte- to see how we match up against them
USA - 1st conference home game.
Over the next couple years, the games, level of competition, and outcomes will go a long way as to which games get circled on my calendar.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
This year (other than the App rivalry) -

As far as new opponents - I'm looking forward to UL-Monroe.
First real FBS/FBS matchup in Paulson Stadium - a team that some recognize as the teams that beat Arkansas and went overtime/should have beat Auburn. This game will be fun to attend for me.

Rekindling an old fight with Troy has it's draw and I think would be a marque win if we can pull it off and would help us make a statement that we are here to challenge for the SBC East (whenever that comes to be), especially if we beat App.

Long term from the other side, I'm most interested in playing the Cajuns. Looking forward to the Tailgating down there and having those guys at "Our House". This matchup has major potential as a future big rivalry and pivot point on who claims the SBC title. (No disrespect intended to App/Troy/Ark State or anyone else).

Obviously we have to be looking forward to the Ark St games when we get them - we go way back and promises to be another pivotal weekend for the conference when our two teams meet most of the time.

So glad to be in this conference.

Yeah NMSU officials were not happy about scheduling that game then. We only play 3 games in October and two are on the road, so the one home game in October had to be scheduled for TETWP. Should have scheduled TXST for Homecoming. This is not the first time games have been scheduled like this. I remember Homecoming games against Boise and Fresno State. 03-banghead

RE: Question to the Newbies...
I'm looking forward to all the conference games. I'm really interested in how we stack up our first year in the league, with two tough away games against the current powers stAte and ULL back to back... they will be measuring stick games for us.

I have all the respect in the world for Georgia Southern, for me, its a rivalry game, but I can't hate them like I did Furman for example. Usually the conference championship and a national ranking was up for grabs every ASU/GSU game, and I expect that will eventually be the case again someday... there is too much tradition and history to think otherwise.

While I have no doubt we have a learning curve, I think we will be in contention before too long. I will learn a lot this year, and I'm looking forward to it. An outstanding season in my book would be to hold serve at home this year... which could possibly happen, and a couple of nice wins against GS and Southern Miss would be icing on the cake.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
We have been in the SoCon for over forty years, so joining a new conference
am going to enjoy all games and seeing how well or poorly we stack up
against each Sun Belt team.
Georgia Southern is the one SBC team we all know and will have most interest.
We love to hate them, but it's kind of a friendly hate.
Troy, being an Eastern SBC team, will have a high interest also. Got the
feeling they are going to be good this year.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
Rivalries will change over time. I remember when I was at GA Sou our biggest rivals were Furman and Marshall. Now, it is App St. I'm looking forward in playing GA State. Playing in the dome, an instate rival (we have have yet to have a true instate rival) and hopefully they do get approved for Turner Field expansion when the turncoat Braves leave Atlanta.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
I'm pretty stoked about all the conference games, it will be nice to be matched up against other 2nd tier state universities with similar enrollments, etc. instead of a bunch of small, private colleges. Of course App at home on ESPN on Thursday night is circled (and would be if it was at 12 noon on a Tuesday), love a chance to finally let the GS vs GSU message board trash talk rivalry be consumated on the field. Really look forward to playing the big dogs UL and stAte in future years, because like someone said, to be the best you got to beat the best. Texas St is still owed a beatdown as revenge for our playoff dumpster fire back in 05, Troy is cool because it's a former FCS foe, Idaho and NMSU are cool just because they are from way far away, South Alabama and ULM I don't really know too much about, but hey, let's get it on.

I have a close friend that works at ULM so I'm looking forward to that game this season so we can talk trash to each other.

Otherwise I'm equally excited about all of them this 1st season. We will take our lumps, but we will dish some out as well so it will make for an interesting season.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
Outside of our rivalry game with Ga. Southern, I'm most looking forward to playing Troy again. We had a couple of big games with them just before they moved up, and I have always looked at them as a model for App to follow in transitioning up. Next would have to be the Cajuns since they are the top dog at the moment, and then USA since they will be our first Sun Belt home game.

Really, I'm excited for all of them as I had grown tired of the SoCon. I'm excited to be a member of the Sun Belt!

Looking forward to all the teams this year (except SSU). My top 3 are App, GaSt, and TxSt. this is just because of the rivalry aspect (App duh, Gast in-state, TxSt payback). But all the games should be fun and a huge improvement over the Socon schedule.

Troy and ULL

Panthers fans hate the Saints, Falcons, and 49ers (after Kaep mocked us when they beat us in the playoffs last year). I'm not sure which of those I hate the most.

And it's HORNETS now.

What Hornets? I hope you're not referencing the Bobcats because I believe he means the TXST kind.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
The only team I'm looking forward to playing is the Cajuns, but not for football, because of tailgate.

And I don't look forward to developing a rivalry with anyone. I'm waiting to see who spoils a great season for us, or who robs us of a bowl spot (right now, Troy is topping that list, but it's really iffy if we would have got a bid if we won against Troy).

If I was forced to WANT a rivalry... I'm sticking with the Cajuns on account the food.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
Looking forward as always to our game with App. St. in Statesboro this year. We are due for a win in this game.

As far as new teams go I am looking forward to playing Troy again, to trying to get revenge vs. Texas St. for that disaster of a playoff game several years ago, and to hopefully starting a good rivalry with Ga. State.

I look forward in the future to playing Ark. St. and Louisiana also. With no team being added this year I would assume the schedule will just reverse home/away for 2015-16, so it looks like for our first 2 years in the Belt we will not get to play Ark. St. or Louisiana.

The excitement around Vandal Football and the SBC will mostly be our home games since the distance to get to the conference games will be too great to travel many from the PNW. NMSU for homecoming is the game that will be the most fun.

RE: Question to the Newbies...
The whole realignment conference shifting stuff I hope it takes a break. I believe we have been in three conferences with Arkansas State and NMSU.

I like Troy they are the most accomplished SBC program.
NMSU is the a logical rival and most Vandal fans pull for them.

Whoever is at the top because that means we will also be at the top of the standings. Beating teams when it means a lot is how you become rivals.
