You would think so, but it doesn't always wind up like you'd think. Ole USA might have a lot to do with the outcome.

Oh yes, Troy is in the mix, no doubt. Would not surprise me if Troy won the league, but I had to toot the Jags' horn.

We certainly have the pieces of the puzzle in place much like we did from 06-10... Let's see if we can put the puzzle together.

Yep...that was the best part of last season. I could walk into any store, pick up any magazine, and there was a full Georgia State preview. I didn't have to special order from some website or look for certain magazine editions only to get preview amounting to a blurb in a paragraph.

I get that. Louisiana should be #1 right now. Arkansas State I can see being as low as four. They've been able to reload pretty successfully, but it has to end sometime, no one can really know if they've recruited well during their run or rested on their laurels. Having a new coach is still an unknown, no matter how good they've been at it. There's only so many Freeze's and Malzhan's to go around.

The SBC is always full of surprises. USA and Troy have the offenses to win it all if the defenses can improve even just a little bit.

Don't let coaching changes fool you! We still have more talent than most G5's could dream of. Our defense will improve slightly from a pretty good defense last year. Let's not forget without bad calls in the WKU game stAte would have won this conference champ outright. Was ULL the better team in 2013...YES

I'd rather change coaches every year then let one retire here! 07-coffee3 sound close to home?

Also remember, we played without our starting QB the last two weeks of the season.

Not saying it should propel us in the rankings (after all, we could lose our starting QB week 1 next season), but I think that it makes us a bit of a wild card.

Would expect our defense to be improved this year.
New DC had made a lot of changes.

The offenses in the SBC are better than what you faced in the Southern Conference. I'm not sure if the improvement is going to be noticeable. If the SBC does anything well, it's offense.

Yeah, your defense could be MUCH improved from last season, but the results on the field will most likely be worse than last year.

Have noticed offenses do outpace defenses in the SBC.

Yes they can.

As far as their coaching staff it should be as good, and again probably better than any in the SBC. How much better they are than the other SBC teams in both areas is obscured by the adjustment period caused but turnover in coaching that results in them losing a game or two they should not, early on. When the coaches and players get on the same page they should again roll through the SBC teams left on their schedule (last years season ending loss to WKU was a fluke caused only by ASU losing it's QB early, and an ill advised spiking the ball by a DL playing on offense, and a late hit out of bounds after the game was won).

But keep on thinking that people cannot really tell how good a team is.

Well, "sir, with all due respect", you didn't a good job of that last season. ASU didn't "roll through" the SBC last season and I suspect they won't have an easy ride this year either. They could certainly win the SBC, but ASU's days of thoroughly ransacking the belt like '11 and '12 are over, at least for the foreseeable future. There are too many good offenses in this league, and no defenses worth a penny in this league for anyone to "roll through" anything.

Seminole Indian is not an Arkansas State fan. Hasn't attended a game in 20 years. He just likes to talk about us.

The Myerburg countdown has Memphis at 96 today. For their high point had the stAte-Memphis game from last year. Makes sense since a lot of our fans consider that our low point.

I think Troy will wind up higher.

Semi-stupid video, for semi-starved football fans:

Until they get a coaching staff that stays more than a year, I have to agree. If that happens losing to SBC teams, or any G5 team for that matter, should be a rarity.

They actually have a very doable plan to be the best G5 team.
